As I always do when in London, last week I did a tour of the shoe shops. It was very quiet and I didn't find much I liked the look of.

The more expensive makers seemed dead. I didn't see anyone else in any of them.

Credit to Crockett and Jones, though. Their flagship store was busy, looked sharp and it appeared to me that the finish on the shoes was slightly better than they have been in the past.

I wonder whether we are seeing a flight to value in uncertain times.

We wandered around Jermyn Street a few Saturdays ago, clothing shops certainly seemed busy enough (Tyrwhitt especially so). Agree that C&J was probably the busiest of the shoe makers. Interestingly Russell & Bromley was totally empty.

Barker still using their multicoloured shoes to catch the attention of passers by (don't know anyone who's ever bought a pair).

I wonder about Russell and Bromley. I used to like their shoes, but more recently they have been too much money for the quality level.

I coughed once, choked down my urge to vomit, and walked on by.
But it was nice of you to think of me.

those shoes are quite special in that both straight and gay guys will both shun them in equal measure.

What if they're a clown on a night out?

With some help from here, last year I bought a pair of tan coloured Oxfords, at the cheaper end of the scale. I'm still very happy with them and had intended to wear them for my wedding this year.

However, in one of the suit shops, the chap showed me the below shoes. I was sceptical at first, but when on and with the dark blue of my suit, I loved them! They're even less money than the tan shoes, but seem on the face of it be of comparable quality. Perhaps a little more divisive in colour though laugh

If the wedding's good, perhaps no one will notice.
Ignore those that scoff. It's your big day; wear what you want. If the colour works with the suit, you're laughing. All eyes will/should be on the birds anyway, and especially the bride of course. Well, maybe except for your gay mates, they'll definitiley clock your footwear.
Well there is a first time for everything, full picture on PH hehe

Yes, I know I'm punching wink Must be why not many people noticed the shoes!

Congratulations, you looked great and you've married a beautiful lady.

Now let her choose your shoes in future.

congrats, she's lovely. Now to have kids and ruin her figure biggrin

on the subject of wedding shoes i have decided to sell the barker blue suede flash brogue things... i had largely forgotten about them and because they are so damn uncomfortable i realised i was only keeping them for sentimental value... and so i had a word with myself because they are after all shoes and not actually something worthy of the emotion. Think still worth maybe £100 which is decent considering i bought them 3.5 years ago.

Just bought these for work ... I'm not massively into shoes. Good/bad? These certainly seem more reserved than the rest of the Melvin and Hamilton range! tongue out
