I really hope so, otherwise it's knob posting (again), and we don't need that here. Again.

I’d rather he just didn’t like them actually. This thread used to have a good culture of pisstaking and it was fun. Admittedly he didn’t say anything funny though so it was a weak attempt if so.

That wasn't actually another example of my rapier-like wit. I was referring to the lilac rubber soles, which I am fairly certain will look horrific after a few wears.

The uppers are pleasant enough though.

Just discovered this thread!

I’ve got a pair of old Barkers, 2 pairs of Loake’s (one English, one Indian) and my good lady has just ordered another pair for my Christmas (Chesters). Whilst not of the quality (and price!) of many in this thread I do like them and I do like to look after them. They get rotated, polished weekly and always live on shoe trees.

I just saw these being advertised on farceberk :

www.undandy.com

Portugiese company with a rather fun online shoe designer thing. Reasonably priced (£180-ish for full brogues). Anyone got any experience? I sort of expect them to be a bit crap to be honest but would love to know if anyone has actually tried them?

I've been a long time lurker on here, but it's always been a thread I've kept an eye on.

Thought I'd post my latest purchase, picked them up on a weekend away with the Mrs.

Red Wing Iron Ranger 8085

Edit: Any idea how to rotate that 90 degrees to the right?

I've heard good things about Redwing work boots.

Those lugs on the soles don't look very deep. I wonder how long they will last before wearing flat.

Either take them back into a C&J shop or if you’re in London try Tony’s Heel Bar 9 Crown Passage. Two decent shoe shops recommended them and they did a swift and good repair on some boots for my wife. I would be happy to use them for minor repairs on good shoes.

Is the stitching still in place? If so, I would be tempted to buy some shoe glue and stick the tip of the rubber back down.

I imagine that's all the shoe pace would do unless they need a full resole.

I think my feet hate me.

After a couple of years and countless days of wearing them my Barker high shine shoes aren't what I'd call "broken in". So I bought these:

Thankfully they came with a shoe horn else I'm not sure I would be able to get them on.

i think there have been a few instances on here, me included, of Barkers (maybe just ones that are made with a common last) being unbelievably uncomfortable and not easing up at all with wear. I won't buy from them again as a result.

I’ve only got one old pair of Barkers, but they may be the most comfortable shoes I own and I’ve never thrown them away for that reason.

I do wonder sometimes if shoe shops are to blame. On many occasions I’ve had them try to persuade me to buy shoes half a size too small because “they will give”. In my experience they rarely give enough and are then uncomfortable.

An old maxim which has always stood me in good stead is that shoes that will be comfortable will always feel comfortable when you first put them on. They may become uncomfortable when you’re breaking them in, but they will end up comfortable.

I'm not sure if these will go down well with the PH massive, powerful company CEO's and the like but...

I recently got these from... Matalan biggrin

And you know what, when polished they come up a treat, they were comfortable from the moment of putting them on, and I've worn them daily for the last few weeks and they're still comfortable even after a long day.

They look fine in a suit and equally with a pair of jeans.

Well, not for me. They fit OK, they just barely bent at all during use, and where they did bend they forced a sharp bar crease into my foot. I wore them maybe 10 times and no sign of letting up. Actually drew blood. I reckon wearing clogs would be more comfortable.

I've got an old pair of Barker Oxford type shoes which I've been reluctant to throw away for ages as they're so comfortable. The uppers are now looking like they're close to death, though.

By comparison the Crockett & Jones that replaced them are nowhere near as comfortable. Possibly due to being ever so slightly too small.

Here's what they look like when you polish them and get rid of the weird matt mottled look.

hmm perhaps not the best light, they are a little lighter in the flesh.

Sorry about that, they look darker than the original picture but lighter than the last in proper light, still brown but x1000 shinier smile
