Here's what they look like when you polish them and get rid of the weird matt mottled look.

hmm perhaps not the best light, they are a little lighter in the flesh.

I didn't think those shoes could get much worse, but I had never considered that you would pair them with a pair of bootcut jeans that would have looked dated in 1995.
If you could get them in ox blood and ‘bovva’ to put some small turn ups on those jeans you’d be right at home in 1975!
Nah I don't wear braces yet and the boots are too low, I'd need another 3 or 4 lace holes - sorry to disappoint.

Apologies for the upside down picture, thought it was sorted- clearly not the case when uploaded.

Does anyone have experience of the Loake Royal? I have no reason to buy them but I like the way they look. If at some point in future I needed a shoe more formal than something from Adidas or Dr. Martens it might be nice to know the Royal is not crap. Cheers all.

Shoe questions in the shoe thread, most peculiar.

Just picked these up. Actually went in for some of the standard type boots in black but these are a bit smarter.....

the idea of wearing what looks to be reasonably expensive suede loafers to a pissup makes me quake with fear. I hope you protected them before going at least!

I normally put a Tesco bag over each of mine and gaffer tape it up around my ankles

Thank you. smile

Brand new Levi (512s iirc). Quite a slim cut (not skinny!) with a bit of taper at the ankle.

hehe

First time wearing tassel loafers, went down well tbh. I didn't used to be a fan but thought it'd be worth giving them a go (last visit to Milan they seemed v popular). Not sure I'd wear them to work, but they are something different.

As with most thing, rest of outfit dependant and I would consider the sockless look (sorry IR) in the spring/summer (as I would for boat shoes or driving moccasins).

Both look v nice. cool

If the fit is absolutely spot on, I'd be tempted to keep both colours tbh. If you have to choose one, I agree that the darker brown is probably the one to go for.

Whichever you choose, lace them up correctly - Derbys should not be straight laced.

I laced my derby boots up straight bar fashion when I first had them and I can't now correct them because the leather has been indented by the laces.

Is there a practical reason not to lace Derbys straight? I thought it was just a preference thing.

Cross lacing offers a more even distribution of pressure over the eyelets, which is more important with open laced shoes such as Derbys.

Of course the aesthetic is also worth considering and cross lacing also differentiates nicely from the more formal straight lacing favoured by smarter shoes such as Oxfords.
