Definitely not, Mother Teresa did pretty awful things during her time, the claims of the 'help' she gave to millions were massively over-exaggerated, she promoted the Catholic trait that condoms actually cause HIV to the African nations thereby sealing the fate of millions rather than saving them.

The quality of 'care' given in her various hospices was also questionable, as well as her handling and use of the millions she received in charitable donations.

Trump. How the fk did he convince 300 million people he was the right man for the job?

Or either of the Chuckle Brothers! Similar political prowess.

From his ascendency so far, JRM. Surely it won't be long till he's 'taken' up anyway.

I think the one thing you can prove with these threads is that Godwin's law is extendable.

Churchill will always be presented as a slam dunk by some, and then dismissed as a drunken war criminal by others. Nelson Mandela will ALWAYS pop up, and someone else will be along right behind saying 'he was a terrorist y'know'.

This question is a mass of shades of grey - and if there is one thing that Pistonheads abhors it is the concept that 2 opposing people can both be simultaneously right and wrong on the same issue depending on a view point.

The absolute crux of the matter here is the definition of 'greatness' - because everyone here will have their own individual definition.

You could make a compelling case for so many people - Nelson Mandela, Winston Churchill, Pablo Escobar, Joseph Stalin, Princes fking Di - all depending on what your individual criteria is of what it is to be great.

Winston Churchill should never be on that list, he made too many mistakes.

Rebeka Vardy, Coleen Rooney and Victoria Beckham.

Hopefully they’ll take them away, although if they’ve got plenty of money it won’t take much convincing

We should split them up.

As for hyper intelligent, will it matter if they visit us here? What do we think of the smartest ant alive?

Alive:
In this thread, someone mentioned Schwarzenegger, I like the idea. He has the life experience, has been through stuff, has shown himself to be able to achieve just about anything he puts his mind to and from all his actions seems like a genuinely good guy.

Dead:
As said, Newton, Einstein, Tesla were all brilliant minds in their time, theorizing about things others won't even have a the foggiest about, but what would that mean to an alien? Per the ant, look this ant found a better way to stack sand so it can build a higher castle! How quaint!
That said, Da Vinci was a true polymath and he'd get my vote. Nelson Mandela, recent memories, managed to tackle much of the apartheid that was vested there for decades, so I still think he'd be a good pick as well to represent us.

Was it a safe conviction that he was imprisoned all those years?

“Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone”, or something like that! Was Mandela a saint, nope, did his actions help lead to the end of Apartheid, yes. Did he come out of prison and bring about a peaceful transition from White rule to the rainbow nation, pretty much yes. So in answer to the OPs question he would be a very good candidate to deal with an alien meeting.

But if I can’t have him then Brian Cox would be good, could always try music if all else fails ; )

Why do people nominate Winston Churchill?

Sir Frank wittle deserves more praise than Churchill surely?
