Its cheap, but being in the shops is an awful experience.
See that's were you are wrong.

I hate the big supermarkets as they are just too big, it takes ages to get round, the tills are slow, there is too much choice, Ok the store may be nicer to look at and there may be a whiff of fresh bread but to do a proper shop is stressful and takes ages.

I can be in and out of my local Aldi, with a weeks worth of shopping in 30-40 minutes.

Some things I can't get, but not much and I can whizz around JS with a basket for the few items and go to the self service till.

The most random thing I've seen for sale at Aldi is wheel barrow wheels.
See that's were you are wrong.

I think that they are awful places to go to.

Can I ask how many you've been too? I'm not being flippant, simply interested. I just wonder if the stereotype colours peoples opinion, or whether it's through personal experience or both? I've just been to their Redruth store, which admittedly is fairly new, but it was no better or worse than the local Sainsbury's. There was a good choice of food stuffs and I bought some lovely ham. The salad stuff wasn't the best, but it was clearly the last of the days stock. The fruit looks great though.

There are two Lidl stores in St Neots. One of them is a wretched hive of scum and villainy and one of them is a glass-slabbed Apple store of a building. I shop in the latter.

I have been in a few aldi stores, I used to get the weekly shop from them. I found them all hateful. Get the shopping delivered now, straight into the kitchen. My time is worth more to me than the cost saving.

I must admit I shop in Aldi quite a bit. I'm just amazed by what you can find there. A 3D printer for £299?

Anyone else found or bought anything you might not expect or are impressed by?
What does your link have to do with this thread?

Erm, nothing. It's an error.

I personally think it's down to brand snobbery, I like the likes of Aldi and Lidl and long may they continue.
I often refer to this fine gentleman who uttered the immortal line:

It all goes to make a turd!

The new stores are being made to look like lovely places - a million miles away from the dark dingy ones in the middle of the sink estates.

The new on in Sutton in Ashfield is rather nice.

Sutton in Ashfield is still a dump tho.

Gluten Free bread/lunch items.

The only shop near my work is an Aldi and I am getting a bit sick of Salads every day frown

Near B&Q? It's better than the one in Sutton itself.

The Aldi near me is pretty crap (Camberley) when there is a big Tesco down the road, a Sainsbo's near by and a good Morrisions not that much further.

But I certainly understand why some people shop there, the couple in front of me had a full trolley and the end result, "£55 please".

I had an eclectic selection of weekend essentials (so mostly booze) and whilst it was marginally cheaper than Morries, the beer selection left a little to be desired. The unbranded diet cola tasted like most supermarket colas, the frozen wedges were good though. Wasn't particularly impressed by their fresh food though. Didn't buy a chain saw.

Can I ask what makes it an awful experience?

Its a budget supermarket, selling the same basics as Tesco, Sainbury etc just cheaper. It doesn't have the range of others but the quality is excellent.

I dont like the layout and the fact that they often run of certain items. I also find it rather bleak inside...oh and the checkouts.

Its definitely cheap and the quality is mostly pretty good.

Prefer Lidl, not for price but on quality.

Bought some mechanics gloves in aldi they just didnt do the job. Bought some weed killer in aldi, the picture on the container showed killing weeds on lawns, which was what I wanted. the instructions said, in the tiniest font you can imagine, I had to use a loupe to read it, do not use on lawns.

Lidl is good, great bread, good quality vegetables, good cheeses. some wierd stuff like compressed air tools and jewellers files, but I end up looking round and buying stuff 'because it might come in' so I presume it works.

Some stores have started doing clothes. I havent sunk that low, yet.
I went away last week forgetting to pack any t-shirts. I was in Lidl getting some stuff and picked up 4 t-shirts for £10.00.
They're really nice. They've only been washed once but they haven't shrunk or faded. Time will tell though.

There's a new one opening the other side of town as well near the A617. Looks quiet "upmarket"

The only thing I would avoid is their stuffing, it is honestly like having a mouthful of sawdust. Bloody awful with no taste whatsoever.
