Run the hot water from tap, rinse and put to one side of sink/on draining board. Use a scouring pad loaded with washing up liquid to scrub the plates/pans after first rinse and then rinse again to get rid of washing up liquid remnants
Washing plates in nasty scummy water is so counter intuitive - once the first dish has gone into that water it turns dirty, after a few it resembles the toilet after I've dropped the kids off at the pool. To me it makes absolutely no sense
Yes it costs more in water but I'd rather spend £15.46 or whatever per year extra in hot water then have to eat my food off plates which has a weeks worth of germs and recent food scrubbed all over it
This is pretty much what I do, except I put everything in the sink rather than on the side.Washing plates in nasty scummy water is so counter intuitive - once the first dish has gone into that water it turns dirty, after a few it resembles the toilet after I've dropped the kids off at the pool. 1) Everything in sink
2) Tap on hot, plug not in
3) Soap up pad
4) Grab plate or whatever and clean
5) Rinse
6) Put to side to drain / dry
7) Repeat 4-6 and 3 when necessary

What other ways are there to wash dishes ?
Change the water after every dish/plate ?
I've been doing this for decades and never poisoned myself with dirty plates.
Snap, this method described needs to be in the OCD threadChange the water after every dish/plate ?
I've been doing this for decades and never poisoned myself with dirty plates.
It's a pretty extreme example though. It's equivalent to taking a bath when you're covered in st. You wouldn't do that - you'd take a shower first to wash the worst off and then have a nice soak in the bath after.
In the same way, for heavily soiled dishes you'd rinse the worst off under the tap and then wash as normal.
Yes, normal. The "disgusting" way you mention is how normal people wash dishes.
Edit: Well, normal people who don't have a dishwasher.

It's annoying when people that don't read books think the film version is good.
Surely people who don't read books belong in the council thread ? Strudul said:
I've always maintained that if you want to get clean, you have a shower, as with a bath you just soak in your own filth.
I don't disagree with you. As a way of getting clean, a shower is far more efficient. But there is a lot to be said for a nice soak in the bath as a form of relaxation. Clockwork Cupcake said:

We have a shower over our bath so if I have a bath, I pull the plug, fire up the shower rinse off before I step out. Best of both worlds.

Any need for the insult? The point is, I don’t care whether a film is faithful to the book because I’m watching the film.
I agree that there is no need for insults, and I acknowledge your point - if you have no interest in the source material whatsoever, then the film stands in isolation. However, if the source material (eg. book) is really good, and the film is a travesty of it and is also a crap film, then I think it's perfectly valid to remark that the source material is better and/or the film is a poor interpretation of it.
This especially goes for people who think that because the film is crap then therefore the source material is crap.
(I'm saying "source material" because it's equally valid for comics, manga, video games, etc.)

By the time you have rinsed off the plate and filled the sink with scumwater to put your dirty plates in you could do the hygienic method though and not wash your plates in the plate before's filthIn the same way, for heavily soiled dishes you'd rinse the worst off under the tap and then wash as normal.

I presume that 'filth' you're referring to is the remnants of what you were eating shortly beforehand, the main body of which is now residing in your gut?Cobnapint said:
