Some of the shops around here you need one on, they're slightly overdoing it with the aircon

She was standing on an open air station platform in direct sunlight then sitting on a sweltering non-air conditioned train.

.*The barman was in full agreement on my irritation here*

Me "Evening, two pints of Boon Doggle please"
Barman "We don't have that at the moment"
Me "Ah shame, but you should turn the label around then"
Barman "We're not allowed to do that because it looks like we haven't got any"
Top quality rant about exactly that sort of thing hehe

"Phoning up". WTF is "phoning up"? How do I "phone my friend up"? And why can't I "phone my friend down"?

You're (tele)phoning. Not up, not down, not at a 45 degree angle. Just "phone" them.

Hmm. I might suggest that "telephoning" is making the noun telephone into a verb - so it is unlikely to be the correct use either.

You can call them on the telephone, of course. Not entirely certain why we say "Phone them up" or "Phone up" but I know I've definitely said it in the past.

The idea that well-understood widely-used vernacular shouldn't be used annoys me beyond reason. wink

The YouTube app (on Android at least) no longer allows you to tap the video time marker to skip or jump back to certain points. You have to touch the current position and slide it forwards or backwards.

I'm fuming.

Our solicitor, when writing or e-mailing, uses the phrase 'at the telephone'.

As in, "As we discussed at the telephone on the 15th"

I think it's a bit old fashioned? Never really heard anyone saying it quite like that before.
That's strange. You can discuss on the telephone but not at the telephone. Unless you were discussing in person and there was a telephone present that warranted it being mentioned.

Solicitors also seem to use "revert to you" to mean "get back to you and put the ball back in your court" too. The phrase seems to have leaked into other professions too now.

Was listening to Radio 5's bespoke show on the way home from work around 9:20pm and they were talking about the staggered start that they set off this afternoon. It was supposed to be a grand event with the yellow Jersey front and centre. Except I could have walked faster than they started the race. The worst thing though is that they started talking about it being a 'damp squid'. It's 'damp squib' not fking squid! FFS!

It was only the reference to the yellow jersey that gave me any context at all as to what you were talking about.
