Something else that's been bugging me and I feel ripe for this thread:

Characters in TV cop shows who are portrayed as intelligent, compassionate, top of their game at their job etc. But as soon as something really bad happens, such as a major character dying or them having some other trauma, and the storyline shows that the character has to make mandatory visits for counselling or similar, all of a sudden they think its a complete joke, waste of time and resource etc.

If they are as switched on and understanding of the roles of their job, surely they would also understand the role that the counselling plays as part of that?

My wife sometimes calls to me when I’m on the ground floor, “Frank, get me a posidrive screwdriver from the garage please.” I call back, “Think that you mean Phillips.”
Maybe she knows the difference between Phillips and Pozidriv, and really does want a Pozidriv screwdriver?

Phillips

Pozi

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she does know the difference between a Phillips and a Pozzy, as she calls it, but it’s only ever been a Phillips that she was looking for.

You've turned off the function which allows PHers to contact you directly via email. In an effort to speak to you offline, I'm requesting that you contact me smile

It's your prerogative, of course, to decline entirely!

Have we yet had people mixing up the word WARY with the word WEARY ?

"..after the issues last time I was very WEARY about doing it again..." (type thing)

Drives me mad. Obviously.

Considering A/F just means 'across (the) flats' the term 'metric AF' is technically valid, if a little confusing for people who assume AF=imperial, and I've seen it used before to describe larger industrial tools, particularly in Europe...
Nah, AF stands for Arthur Ferris, hence the term half-inch Arthur.

Your right and I'm glad you bought it up because it defiantly annoys me beyond reason, too.
