Unless the toaster is sold with specific bread size limitations then one should expect to be able to shove in a slice from any standard loaf and it be toasted in full without missing 25% of it. The slices illustrated aren't even that large. I've had loaves where the bread is 'taller' than those.

Put it in sideways...News stories where they show a tweet/instagram message, and then right after, in inverted commas, repeat the very words you've just seen. A journalist is literally being paid to read you a tweet. I thought it was bad in the Blair/Clinton years when journalists seemingly just showed up for a press conference and repeated what the gov't said, but even that seems more mature than this..

To be fair, I understand the reason they do this. The tweet/Instagram post/etc. is embedded, meaning the BBC is only showing what the external service (Twitter etc.) provides. In so much that the article only makes sense with that information provided, and the fact that history proves that such services, and the means by which to access them, are temporary, it makes sense for the BBC to replicate pretty much in full what the embedded content says in case the third-party service becomes unavailable (by accident or design) at any point in the future.https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-4710270...

Right now it looks a little redundant at worst. In five or ten years times it may well look prudent.

Why can’t they design toasters to match bread? It has to perform one function, yet most of them aren’t up to the task. Says a lot about the state of the world really.
I bet toaster designers are MLMs.
Just maybe you could change the bread you buy?I bet toaster designers are MLMs.
a standard Scottish 'Plain Loaf' will never fit
maybe the EU should enforce some sort of DIN loaf sizes... oh wait
in German supermarkets they always (well for about the last 25 years anyway) sell 'sandwich bread' and smaller 'toast bread' but the larger still fits in my UK toaster, it's pretty square shaped

Occasionally I go into my bank to withdraw sizeable amounts of money, maybe a thousand or so. Each time a smiling staff member greets me and asks me how they can help me today and when I say "I want to withdraw some cash" I'm told I can do it at one of the three ATMs inside the bank so I explain that it's a large amount. "That's no problem, just use the machine nearest the window."

Being asked to go to a meeting about something I'm not really up speed on at half an hours notice.
People who manage to squeeze a half hour meeting in to 3 hours
Meetings that run in to lunchtime
Eventually getting to canteen to find there's no meat option with the salad.
On the plus side the veal soup is lovely

Decline the meeting. RizzoTheRat said:

I give them a 10 minute grace period (unless I'm exceptionally busy) and then walk out. My boss does the same thing. We've got one person who's infamous for hyper-extending pointless meetings (also a prime example of the Dunning-Kruger effect and the Peter Principle), we always walk out of her meetings. If they say anything, I'll ask them to send me a summary by email and continue departing.

See above. Short grace period, then departure. Most people can't run a meeting. Unless a meeting has an agenda I'll decline it and they best have a good reason for complaining.
Manage your time despite them, because people who cant value their own time will never value yours.

This I grant you, this is bloody annoying.Sadly they're the ones that pay us to do the work so can't really decline
Oh and another one, the layout of our new canteen meaning there's a bigger queue to get rid of your tray (as you now have to tip any left overs in to different bins for food, plastics and everything else) than there is to get your food

Leftovers? What are these leftovers of which you speak?Oh and another one, the layout of our new canteen meaning there's a bigger queue to get rid of your tray (as you now have to tip any left overs in to different bins for food, plastics and everything else) than there is to get your food
