What did you quote directly?

it means 'thus', normally it would be short for 'sic erat scriptum' meaning roughly 'written thus' referring to some original quoted source - are you stating that 'normal' was written somewhere?

[sic]
When used it should be in Italics inside square brackets.
I put the word "normal" in quotes to show that I was referring to the concept or logical fallacy of normalcy in this context, thus quoting it, followed by (sic) to indicate that I was drawing attention to the fallacy. When used it should be in Italics inside square brackets.
It's acceptable to use round brackets as an alternative to square brackets.

Edit: I find it somewhat ironic to be chastised for not using italics on a Latin phrase, because I've often been accused of being pretentious (in this very thread, amongst others) for using italics on Latin phrases.

It's not a quote.
Blimey, and I thought *I* was a bit pedantic sometimes. Fair enough. You win. Have a biscuit.
NB. There's no 'win' - the thread concerns things that annoy beyond reason - it was you who disputed my annoyance.

Americans? Seriously, all of them?
I’ve encountered a whole slew of wilfully ignorant dumbass Brits over the years, both here and abroad, but I don’t find that the rest of them annoy beyond all reason.
There's just something about them that winds me up. Maybe it's because my general exposure to them are as tourists wandering around London doing general irritating tourist things, but there is definitely some innate Americanness that gets under my skin. I've met plenty of friendly, intelligent, perfectly agreeable Americans who've been nothing but nice to me, but I always have the constant nagging feeling that they're putting on an act.I’ve encountered a whole slew of wilfully ignorant dumbass Brits over the years, both here and abroad, but I don’t find that the rest of them annoy beyond all reason.
Maybe I'm just a xenophobic prick.

A colleague said to me once, 'Yanks, the best hosts but the worst guests'.
