Seems harsh but it’s your annoyance.
It would annoy me too.

I don't need a preacher when I need a medical professional.

“I’ll pray for you” mad

I’ve been having a bit of a health issue recently, specialists at the hospital are doing all they can to work out the best course of action based on medical evidence.
Thankfully, both my Christian grandparents and Muslim friend have let me know they’ll pray for me, so I should be alright.
Thoughts and prayers.

(hehe)

Ooooh seethe. At dusk yesterday, I was sitting in the car in the middle of town when a lad (looked about 9yo) kicked a football at the side of my car.

He'd been kicking about approx 20 yards away and clearly had good ball control so hitting my car from five yards was obviously deliberate.

So I got out of the car, looked at the nearside and found no damage.

I'd thought that one day, this wart will have a car of his own. His Corsa or Saxo will get huge wheels over its weeny brakes, a full Rice Boy exhaust and maybe a wrap. And when some little ste endangers it, he'll be incensed too.

I saw no damage but what I wanted to see was his still-beating heart stuttering to a halt on the pavement.

Do the Germans use credit cards much? They seem pretty rare in NL where most people use debit cards (annoyingly maestro rather than Visa or MasterCard) all the time, if Germany's similar it may make sense that Aldi/Lidl didn't bother with credit cards as standard.
I don’t know about now, I haven’t been over for a while, but in the nineties, when I’d visit my son and his family in Germany, I’d usually take them all out to dinner on one night.
A couple of times I ask for die Rechnung, or der bezahlen, and after it came, I’d get a card out to pay it, and my German daughter-in-law would say, “Let me check that they take cards Frank, you’re not at home now, we’re still catching up.”
yes,. much more common these days

I was in Berlin at the start of March. Probably 2/3rds of the bars we went to didn't take card. Cash only. It was unbelievably irritating.

We went a couple of years ago and it was very much cash biased, even in Berlin. They also liked you to have the exact change as well. Paying for 14.36 with a 20 got you a withering look. Stern those German waitresses.

Our friends who live their reckon the retail banking system is about 30 years behind what they were used to in the UK. Crackers!

The trouble with buying drinks on a card is that, once a month, someone sends you a list of all the drinks you've had in the preceding month. I'm not sure I want a reminder.

I don't need a preacher when I need a medical professional.
Who’s to say it wasn’t Devine intervention that provided said medical professional??

(I’m not religious, very not religious actually - but do keep my mind open to outside potential influences)

Are you suggesting that your GP is Jesus?

I’m happy to keep my mind open to the fact there may be a God of some sort, but the concept of ‘I’ll pray for you’ is egotistical.
If something is ‘Gods will’, is he really going to change his mind after a quick chat with my Grandparents?
Praying for self reflection and guidance to become a better person I can understand, but ‘I’ll have a word with the big guy, see if I can pull in a favour’ is beyond my understanding of faith.
Also, at least one of them are wasting their time.
