Erm... Wrong

2 laps is a mile, So a 60 average would require you to complete the 2 laps in 1 minute. Being as you took all of that minute to do the first lap that is impossible.
It's early and I'm drugged up on Morphine in hospital so I am slightly doubting my own conclusion but I'm reasonably certain of it.

I'm not sure the original post qualifies as any sort of astonishing fact though. The Japanese Dr above who got bombed twice and a fair few of the others are.

But the question is what speed to you have to travel at on the second lap to average 60mph, not about the time it takes to do it.

I understand that a 60mph constant speed would take 1 minute, but as you have done only half this speed for the first lap you would still average 60mph if you did double this speed for the second lap, surely?

Hang on though, I see what you mean, speed is a measurement of distance over time - and you have already used all the time available on your first lap. Got it now! smile

I've been kept up all night with my wife's cold and my head is not working properly!

Sorry to hear about your current predicament, I hope all ends well.

Exactly, it doesn't work as fact but it does work as a riddle to confuse people and make then go aagh.took me a while to get my head around the logic.

In fact I might I might post it up on my Facebook later and see if any body gets it.

A bomb was placed at the bottom of a hollow column, 3ft wide by 485 deeom with a four-inch iron cap on the top. A camera trained on the lid caught only one frame of it moving upward, at ~125,000mph. It's thought not all of it would've burnt up on its' way out and, at 5x escape velocity, is well on it's way out of the solar system.

This should say - France and its overseas territories have more time zones than Russia and the USA.

As mentioned in another thread:

A contestant in a game show is asked to pick one of three boxes, one of which contains a prize. The host then opens one of the other boxes and shows the contestant that it was empty, and then asks the contestant whether they would like to change their choice. The contestant doubles their chance of winning the prize by changing their selection to the other box.

Ah, the Monty Hall problem ^

Anyway, when launched, a Saturn V uses more fuel before it moves than 747 does to cross the Atlantic.

Regarding kettles, it is a fact. Surprised me as well! Must be to do with the voltage.
I'm afraid it isn't a fact. My American friends (in America) have a US made electric kettle.
Well, it is a fact that the vast majority of UK households have an electric kettle, whereas the vast majority of US households do not. You know what I meant. smile
Makes you wonder why these folks bother stocking 177 different types of electric kettle then...

...or that's why they've still got them.

From the electric kettle in my Canadian hotel room this morning... 1500W, similar to UK ones, just double the current at 110V;

I cannot abide those cheapo kettles that they give you in hotel rooms. They really boil my piss.
Why would you be using the kettle for that! eek
I think that might be a parrot flying overhead.

There was a thread a while ago that I believe made it to legendary thread status where somebody admitted to pissing in a kettle. Can't remember the details but I was just about to congratulate the poster on a very subtle joke most wouldn't get.

Interestingly, he was not named Jack though. This was a nickname, his real name was Jasper Newton Daniel.

It’s said that was hungover from the night before drinking JD and forgot the combination, kicking the safe in anger. So, Jasper Newton Daniel was killed by his own drink!

No, I think the first statement was correct. Unlike here, where we consider our overseas territories as such, I believe the French just treat everything as being part of France.
