So who did those 20k decend from?

Statistically you only have to go back about 3000 years to reach the point where everyone now should be related to a common ancestor, in reality its probably a bit more complex than that but not a lot, but getting back to a genuine single individual goes bay way further.
There was an volcanic event 70k that drastically effected modern humans populations, all but 5-10k breeding pairs left. That is what all humans are descended from. to get to a single pair would probably go back to the first organisms.

Sonic Hedgehog is actually a protein that in humans is encoded by the SHH ("sonic hedgehog") gene.

Hornets are actually (relatively) docile if they’re left alone. Never encountered killer bees.

Wasps, however, can get to fk.

Hornets apparently give off some kind of pheromone when they die that attracts other hornets, so if you squish one a load more will turn up and vow to avenge their fallen sister.

Annapurna has the highest death rate of any of the fourteen 8000m peaks with a 34% chance of dying if you attempt to climb it. Only around 200 people have summited it vs the 4100 that have made it to the top of Mt Everest.

How can you tell its a "sister" as opposed to a brother?
I would not want to hang about checking the corpse's dangly bits(or lack thereof) if I knew a swarm of hornets was on the way seeking vengence

Because like most social wasp species, all workers are genetically sterile females

The same is true for ordinary honey bees - the pheromone is in the sting.

The Battle of Hastings was a long time ago.
Way back in 1966, just after the Battle of Brighton.
