Dr Jekyll said:
'Mortgage' is actually a French word meaning 'death wage'.
Surely it translates as ‘dead weight’?

Perhaps in new fangled French but in proper medieval French it's more like 'wage' or possibly 'promise' or 'pledge' in the monetary sense.

It's one of those French words that got turned into an English one by dropping the 'G' and sticking a 'W' on.

Like Guerre, or Guardian, or Guarantee.

Even over 100 years after it went down, the pool on the titanic was so well built that it’s still full of water.

I don't think the Titanic had a pool. That was probably the orchestra pit. frown

You are allowed up to 18 grams on coke legally at your home in Switzerland.

Switzerland is one on the only countries in Europe that eats dogs and cats.

I only lived in switzerland for 2 years but never ever saw, heard, discussed or even had anyone mention that dogs and cats might have been considered food.

Farmers mostly do in certain cantons , unless you spoke with them it is not widespread, about 3% of population, not a lot of people know it still happens.

And cat fur rugs were supposed to be good for arthritis... seen several in the higher areas of Vaud and Valais.

Horse pizza. Horse steak. Quite common. You can even get a horse steak in the motorway service station near Martigny. Relais de St Bernard IIRC.
