Stirling Moss
Helped him push his MB up into his enclosure at GFoS, then he shook my hand, seemed to be a lovely bloke.

1- Someone royal. Possibly.

Black Jags with coat of arms on the doors and a bunch of hard looking blokes hanging around my last employers car park. The chairman did a lot of charity/community work, was made a CBE etc so such visits happened from time to time.

Walking down a narrow corridor and hard-looking-bloke ushered me into the wall and told me to wait, while a middle-aged-ish woman brushed passed us followed by a bunch of cameramen and blokes.

Never did find out who it was and I left shortly afterwards.

2- Same workplace, shook hands with Sir Vince Cable, who after being told my name, said "nice to meet you" and immediately called me by the wrong name hehe

Very good thread - have shaken hands with various people but I do remember years back when I used to work on a few music magazines years ago I got to go to loads of after parties one I was queuing in the toilet queue next to Noel Gallagher and struck up conversation. I was quite hammered at the time and walked out the loo, saw a free seat at a table and plonked myself down to compose myself whilst probably quite drunkenly eyeing up the fit blonde next to me - turns out I had sat at Oasis table and was eyeing up Nicole Appleton with a raging Liam about to get up and belt me before Noel got back and put a hand on my shoulder and politely asked for his seat back.

More recently Tom Hardy moved into the street next to where we live, literally turned around in the wine aisle and bumped into him in Tesco the other day - couldn't be any more normal a chap totally not part of the LA type at all!

I've had the security, "stand there, wait there, don't move, please, sir" once when visiting Bletchley Park in around 2000. Was asked to put my camera away.

Turns out it was the head of SIS.

Loads over the years, mainly at corporate things. John Barnes patted me on the arse once if that counts.

Traditionally 'famous' are probably just Stirling Moss and Mark Hamill.

I've also met a few Apollo/Gemini astronauts:

Dave Scott (Apollo 15 and first man to drive on the moon)
Jim McDivitt (took the famous photo of Ed White on his EVA)
Frank Borman (took the famous 'earth rise' photo)

a few other Astronauts too, but those are the stand out ones to me.

I met the crew of STS-121. Handshakes only, which was good as one of them was Lisa Nowak...

... but also the rather brilliant Piers Sellers (RIP), a truly brilliant scientist and a lovely, lovely man.

Guy Martin (very polite, still talks at 1 million mile an hour, even off camera)

Ron, and Leon Haslam (had a good laugh as Ron fell off a CG125 at about 2m.p.h.)

Jamie Whitham (Had a good chat about his FS1E)

Kevin Schwantz

David Bellamy (very rude, spoke very harshly to me, I was just 7 at the time)

There aren't many people that I would really, really like to meet, but Obama is one.
