I wish there was more heightism to be honest. I'm only 6'2", which isn't much over average height here in the Netherlands, but British Airways have now managed to set their seat pitch to about the length of my femur. I had an exit row last night with plenty of legroom, but neither of the women next to me could have over 5'5". Biometric data's in your passport these days isn't it? I reckon you should only be able to book an exit row if you're over 6'.
Agreed on the 6' side of things that those of a taller height should have first dips on the extra legroom seats, but then what about 6'5" mum with her 5'9" husband and 3 kids - should they have to have the whole exit row or should they have to sit in the 'knees by yer ears' seats? Can you imagine the sense of entitlement that some will have over it?Sometimes it is just easier to sit back and smile, knowing that being taller is often far more of a boon than a bane.
6'2" is 'slightly above average height in NL' ? Really? I'm just about 6'2" and fell like an umpa lumpa when I go over there!

Heightism is absolutely rife in the online dating world...usually a discrimination held by women rather than men in my experience.
Amazingly hypocritical really.
I am 6'3" and so never encountered the issue but a good mate of mine was tinder-active at the same time as I was and I was amazed at how many women specified they wanted 6' minimum. Was a real eye opener. I'm sure if a Tom Hardy or Brad Pitt had walked into a bar below the height threshold they would have been content to see where things led but to dismiss anyone under their own criteria from the off seemed incredible.Amazingly hypocritical really.

Cant say I'm that bothered by a woman's height, but do prefer her to have small hands.
To make other things look bigger? If someone has a particular hangup about height, colour, wealth, I'd rather they were up front about it so no one is wasting anyone else's time. Don't get me wrong, I find superficial people's views infuriating, but then at least you wouldn't be spending any more time around them than strictly necessary.

Anyone want to explain what is it with women shorter than 5"2 wanting guys that are like 6"2+? I know protection and all but even with heels the difference is ridiculous!
Many years ago a PHer embarked on a comedy course in London that culminated in a (filmed) gig he did as stand up in a pub. He was a short guy and made some great jokes about how women would stipulate they wanted a 6 feet tall guy because they were 5' 6" in their heels.Anyone remember who the PHer was or have a youtube link? His 5 min set was quite impressive for an amateur.
Haven't seen him post for a while.

I'm 6'2" and happy with my height. When I was in my late teens and early 20s, I rowed seriously and wanted to be a lot taller (height is very helpful in rowing), but being much taller than 6'2" is not desirable in most aspects of life. I already bash my head on doors and doorways far too often. Even at 6'2" I already struggle with many cars. On the Northern Line, I cannot stand within a yard of the doors without bending my neck. European flights and long haul economy are plain uncomfortable. Most long haul business class beds are too short and too narrow. I was on Singapore last week. The seat is very wide, but when turned into a bed, your feet go into a cubby offset to one side, forcing your body into a skewed position that is not comfortable. I still don't want to be shorter.
I'm 195cm and have never bashed my head on a door My younger brother has a big hang-up about my height; he justifies my success in life and natural sporting ability over his as being purely down to being taller (he's 180). It's quite sad really and I feel sorry for him.
Agree with you on the flights thing though!
Personally, the biggest drawback of being tall is not fitting into pretty much all sports/super cars. Being a "car-guy" this is actually quite traumatic!
That aside, I think the positives massively outweigh the negative.

I've always found people who rule out a partner based on a characteristic like height (or race) to be extremely foolish and all they're doing is limiting their own options.
.
But surely you want to limit your options to things you find attractive. And rule out things you don't. What's the issue with that? .

I'm 6ft 4 (and a half) and I get fked off with the amount of people that point out that I'm tall. If I point out someones weight thats offensive apparently...
On the flip side, my girlfriend is 5ft 1...the height difference is quite comical.
I'm 6'3" and my gf is the same height - people don't comment on my height but she gets it constantly (mind you in really high heels she's about 6'8") and the chat up lines are risible. On the flip side, my girlfriend is 5ft 1...the height difference is quite comical.
Curiously though I love short girls - my ex was a rather plump 4'10" which was simply marvelous.
Tall people have direct experience of being the same height as short people so are able to make a well informed judgement on the merits of each height
I am somewhat taller than average and have not really found anyone other than total morons have seen fit to mention it and even then not really since my schooldays.

I’m betting a lot of men don’t like women who are taller than them but there’s no need to mention it as it’s less common?Amazingly hypocritical really.

Public transport is pretty much off limits, most cars are a challenge to get comfy, but it's been years since I've been in the back seat of anything. Clothes are not too bad, as I'm well proportioned, usually XL for sleeve length, and I'm a 34" inside leg so the top end of what is available off the shelf.
The worst thing about being this tall is how fragile my back is, and how much money I spend with chiropractors.
That said, dating has never been an issue in the past, although I have lied about my height in the past - saying I was 6'3"...
I'm 199.5 cm or 6ft 6 in old money.
Have to say that when we were younger my short-arsed mate got through women like there was no tomorrow whilst I was on sodding paupers rations so the 'women prefer tall men' thing is a bit of a generalisation. I think they like self-confidence more than anything else.
I don't wish I was taller, shorter, fatter or thinner. I'm 45 now and quite happy with how I am. The only real bad point I've found is I need a car with a lot of headroom so all the cars I'd love to have I can't fit in. I once sat in a Testarossa and it was comical, and when my wife came home in a demo MX-5 I sat in it and looked like Noddy. To drive it I would have had to look over the windscreen.

I had to look it up and I thought it was taller too, 6' 1/2" apparently. My wife's about 6' and it's amusing how often we get asked for directions over here, I think people assume a fairly tall couple are Dutch

Funny - and true - story. The OH and I were flying back from JFK in April 2001. We asked for long legroom seats, but they were all gone.So we got on the plane and where we were sat the seats were in a XX-XXX-XX configuration. The long legroom seats directly behind the partition, the entire row, was occupied.
By midgets.
I couldn't believe it - their little legs were so short that they couldn't bend their knees as their femurs weren't long enough to reach. Someone was really taking the piss.
(17 years later it has just occurred to me that there were 7 dwarves)

Another tall one here - 6'7", and I was 6' at 12 years old, so had plenty of time to get used to the "what's the weather like up there" jokes. I catch my head on all sorts of things, and people around me seem to find it the single-most hilarious thing they have ever seen...

You are 5" taller than me with the same inside leg! Big head, long neck, long torso or a combination? Probably equally spread out, but maybe more in the torso. Shirts and jumpers are always an XL or XXL for body length, but usually a bit baggy around the waist. My shoe size is 12, so pretty much all of my clothes can be bought in regular shops. The only time I notice my height is when I see another tall person walk towards me, usually a head taller than most people around them, but when I'm side by side I may be an inch or two taller than them.
I'm utterly useless at judging other peoples height though - pretty much everyone is a degree shorter than I am, and I couldn't really tell if somebody is 5'9" or 6'2".
