Who guarded the edge of the earth in the olden days before NASA?
Why have we never seen any photos of these "guards"? Surely someone must have snapped one by now and are they positioned all around the edge or is there a fence?Someone mentioned SciManDan on youtube, who debunks a lot of these things, also "Professor Dave explains" is good. They both have numerous videos which can waste a few hours

There's nothing harmful about it by itself, but the problem is that it can be a sort of gateway drug for conspiracies such as anti-vaxxing, which absolutely are harmful.
I would argue that these are completely separate issues, anti-vaxxing community would exist with or without flat earth societies doing their thing. There is nothing to show its a gateway that I can find, in fact anti- vaxxing has been a thing for hundreds of years. I can imagine there might be a small percentage that are flat earth and anti vaxxers but that doesn't mean one caused the other, it could be for instance a religious motive that drives both. Association is not the same as causation.Old Man Fred said:

It is just the ice wall apparently, and they don't need visible people as they have radar and cameras etc..

Yes have seen a few SMD ones and he does explain it simply but he is VERY condescending he kind of reflects the behaviour of the flat earth video people which I think weakens his argument somewhat (although to be fair he does get millions of hits so his style works!). There is buried in these videos some really interesting nuggets of science - I ended up being linked off to other videos and watched 5 minutes of one on an isochronous curve, it was brilliant watching how to draw one then doing the ballbearing acceleartion/distance thing - science is cool! They're totally separate issues but I'm willing to bet important parts of my body that a Venn diagram of flat-earthers and anti-vaxxers has a very solid core.Rawwr said:

Probably are, but being a flat earther is not a gateway, nor a driver, for becoming an anti vaxxer or any other conspiracy group. The likelihood is a mindset of some sort be it a religious background, or something else. As above, just because someone joins a flat earth society and then an anti vaxxer society does not mean that one caused the other - they are associated but one does not cause the other, association (correlation) is not the same as causation.coldel said:

A bit pedantic. Anyone with an enthusiasm for ignoring science and their own eyes is surely indicative of someone gullible enough to believe any old rubbish. Any one conspiracy just leads to more.eldar said:

Would have thought that these urban explorers would have been filmed hanging off the edge by now.
I just want to see a pic of the ice wall surely one exists?I thought there was a dome over us, so how did they get in?

Scenario 1- Too much risk of flying into dome.
Scenario 2- You'd end up flying into space.
Seems plausible.
If you ask a very young child what shape the earth is, why we do not fly off into the sky etc. something resembling flat Earth theory is probably what they would come up with - this is clearly before their brains are developed beyond drinking milk and putting square bits of plastic through square holes etc.

Ozone hole is a cover story.
I like asking the flat earthers why it is that you don’t see the same constellations / stars in the night sky on one side of their flat disc, to the other side, or why you can’t see one mountain from another mountain at distance. It’s just comedy watching their brains trying to work it out, in their favour.

They simply find some obscure you tube video with an experiment done completely incorrectly by someone completely unqualified to even attempt something like that with no peer reviews and say 'there you go' Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
