Aim to get there early - you can buy a burger from the van in the car park or take a picnic for lunch and wear comfy footwear - you are on your feat for a number of hours.

Enjoy!

I think there was another PH'er who posted something similar last month and there was useful info on that.

Edit - found the thread.

Went to one several years ago, thanks to a nice fella on here who had a spare ticket, was an experience, not something I'd do again but it was an enjoyable day overall really.

I have a ticket for filiming on this Thursday - going by what I read I think I'm going to get there for about 11am. Not looking forward to all the standing around but it's a one off experiance I guess.

Apart from standing there all day being a part of the audience is there actually anything beneficial to the partakers?

Do you get a go on the circuit? Have a go in some the supercars on display? Meet the stars?

Not sure if serious.
You might get a selfie or an autograph with Chris Harris.
Go on the track? Play with the cars?
Not. A. Chance.

No, you're just a background civilian while the important people do some work.

Deadly serious...

Do you at least get paid for your time?

So you apply, wait a few years for a slot, turn up extra early on the day and still run the risk of being turned away all so you can stand there and look pretty for 5 hours.

Seems like a bum deal to me.

Some people enjoy watching a production being made, seeing famous starts and just want to be part of one of the most iconic car shows ever made.

Wouldn’t be for me personally but it clearly is for lots of people. Good thing we don’t all enjoy the same things and all that.

At least try and stand at the front and get yourself on TV. smile

A few years back Top Gear borrowed my car, and in exchange gave me two tickets to the show.

I took my dad, and yes there was some standing about but it was an interesting evening. Saw Clarkson, May and Hammond a bit more naturally and they were genuinely funny, with some banter to us all, although they didn't stop to chat to the audience afterwards. Granted they were in a rush to get up north, as this was the night Clarkson smacked his producer.

Before filming and during the breaks you are given free roam to walk around the studio and have a look at the cars. There is a gift shop too selling overpriced crap, if you're into that sort of thing. Sadly no trips out to the track, although someone was flying about in the reasonably priced car.

So it was reasonably fun, but unless they introduce more to make it worthwhile, I wouldn't go again.

All changes since then.
Turn up, shuffle in, stand there, shuffle out.
And that's about it.

Get paid for your time? Stop, you're making my sides hurt! It's not like jury service, you know.

You no longer wait a few years, and I would be amazed if, provided you turn up before the cut off, you'd be turned away.
