I've not really been using my bike much over the winter months but decided to take it for a run on Saturday. Got it out of the garage and started it up, had a little steam coming from the radiator within a few minutes. I thought it was just a little condensation burning off, continued getting geared up when i saw a large puddle of coolant forming underneath.

It seems to be coming from the middle of the matrix with no obvious stone damage.

An OEM replacement is about £750 new and second hand ones seem to be between £2-300 but obviously no guarantee on them.

Are there any companies out there making pattern parts? So far I've only found one US based company but I'd rather buy from the UK if possible.

I'm pretty much certain it is, it's coming from just above dead centre of the matrix and the hoses are dry so must be radiator.

I didn't realise that was a thing, hadn't even considered it. That could be the best way to go?

You may also be able to get someone to braze the damage if it's accessible.

I think the best option would be a re-core.

I had my radiator re-cored by these people...

https://www.aaronradiator.co.uk/index.php?p=home

Their website doesn't seem to be working re bike radiators but they did a first rate job on mine, before it would hit 100deg+ in slow traffic even from new but now runs much cooler smile

Basically.

The difficult bit with radiators is the header shape and outlets - these are removed, shot-blasted and then rewelded/brazed back onto an off-the-shelf core (which are easily identified by number of coolant rows, number of passes and fin density). Once done they paint/powder coat it and away you go.

Quick google for motorcycle radiator recore brings a few up, this one looks promising:

I didn't know this either and I'm looking at a similar issue on my other bike. Everyday's a school day smile

Only spoken to a couple of companies so far, prices were around 200 for a flat rad, 350ish for a curved one.

I think this will definitely be the route I go down

Can you not try fixing it yourself with Devcon or similar?

Finally pulled my finger out yesterday and got the radiator off. It's leaking from the site of a previous repair. I'm going to drop it off to a local repair place tomorrow to see if they can do anything with it.

On the plus side, I'm going to take the opportunity to give it a bloody good clean while it's naked!

Have you looked on ebay?

There are often good used examples available and more and more Chinese made pattern ones for popular bikes.
