Appropriate homework for a 10 year old...............???

On a separate point though, if you're the type of person who gets steamed up about the curriculum, I would have expected you to take some steps in advance to know what's on it and what's coming when - not just be interested when it presses your red buttons.
Ask the teacher and tell us what the explanation is and we can all relax.

The child in question is the OP's niece - I doubt he has, or is entitled to that level of engagement.Ask the teacher and tell us what the explanation is and we can all relax.

My font of useful guidance is exhausted in that case.
I know teachers are widely perceived as enemies of the people here but the easiest way to find out what they're up to is ask them - or their masters in government.

This highlights a larger problem for me, in a society where various groups are fighting/shouting for equality why are 'assignments' such as this even deemed acceptable, it discriminates against so many.
There is such a fine balance and I honestly believe we will never get it right. Kids are cruel and will often pick on each other based on them being/looking/sounding different to others, now unlike ever the kids are made to feel victimised by the state/teachers/parents to such an extent that a bit of teasing has the potential to change/shape their lives.
People seem to have to belong to some sort of victimised group these days it bizarre!

So a quick update form my side.
My sister approached the assistant head teacher this morning, with concern over the content of my niece's homework. Mainly on the the fact that as a 10 year old she never had a clue what the acronym was, let alone really understood when my sister tried to explain things as delicately as she could. (This is my niece's situation, so appreciate that kids can differ, and adult opinions, but for the purpose of this update we'll keep it on my niece's situation. )
The assistant head agreed categorically that this should not have been rolled out to the Primary 6 pupils, as the content was aimed at secondary school pupils. Equally, there is a policy in place that calls for the (secondary) school in question to seek the parent's permission, depending on year group, prior to rolling this out. The assistant head apologised, offered to speak to the teacher in question, and get back to my sister. There was an agreed concern over the suggestion to 'research', and there was a worry over what content could have been unearthed on the WWW, regardless of adult filters etc on web browsers within this age group.
So, thanks for the views, it seems that the school agrees it wasn't suitable content for the class and shouldn't have been rolled out.

I really don't want to be represented by a person, group or organization who believe they know what's best for me. I find the whole notion as ridiculous as having representation for people with ginger hair or blue eyes. Equality is admirable but categorising a group and tilting things in their favour is not equality. I think that sums up my feelings.

What if they don't have an inspiring LGBT person? If their heroes don't swing that way, will a kid be branded a homophobe at 10, and sent to a N Korea style re-education camp?
Love the idea though of doing Ernst Rohm , or John Wayne Gacy

I know somebody who is gay and I look up to him, not because he is gay but because he is a driven, determined person, and built up a very successful company. Couldn't give two hoots that he doesn't like boobs. Equally, somebody could be a right tt, but I wouldn't hate them because they're gay, but because they're a right tt.
If people in general just looked at the individual rather than the "label" I think we'd all get along better. To be honest, it really isn't helped by people of various groups who push agendas etc onto everyone.

I was talking to somebody who was openly gay the other day and he was saying he hates most other gays, he didn't wish he wasn't gay and obviously likes a bit of cock but in his words "they never fking shut up about it".
I have to agree with this one....plus the fact aholes aren't self lubricating puts me right off. I'm not sure what I find most exasperating with this?
1) That some lefty Corbynista teacher should assume that a ten-year-old would know what LGBT means
or
2) That in this day and age, when we are supposed to be getting more enlightened and less discriminatory, people still find the need to label everyone?
Surely if we remove all of the tags to do with race, creed, religion, colour, height, weight, sexuality, etc it would be much harder to discriminate?
People are people!
A better title for the homework would have been:- "Research an inspirational person, and create a fact file about them, and why you find them inspirational"
In fact I'm not even sure if the person who set this question is a homophobe or a groomer?
