I do love it when there is some promise of better weather on these summer threads. A rare warm bank holiday!
I'll believe it when I see it; it's pouring down now despite the forecasts saying nothing from Wednesday evening for over a week, the promised 19C is 12C and I have no faith whatsoever in it even stopping raining this weekend, let alone being sunny.

My prediction for Lancashire - dull, chilly and raining until Monday afternoon. Then it will be nice and sunny. It will start to rain again at 4pm next Friday. Guaranteed.

Dog Star - unfortunately for those in the NW, you're always nearest to the Atlantic. I can assure you, it's bloody glorious in the SE today!

Likely to the be warmest May Day Bank Holiday on record (mainly because it's normally st). Even a mere 26 degrees will win it!

Hope you're all enjoying the good weather (apart from those on NW coasts...)

Brief mid week unsettled spell, before high pressure returns...

Does next Saturday look good (SW)?

Have arranged a big get together and BBQ so knowing my luck it'll be pissing it down!

It is already the hottest early May bank holiday on record with 24.2. First May Day holiday was 1978.

I'd suggest you don't plan many more BBQs. Afraid GFS and ECM both showing low pressure off the NW. Far SE looks to escape the worst - but April shower weather would be likely.

Of course, it could change.

Working in it today, hot hot hot! Was hoping for fairly settled weather next weekend but not looking that way at the moment. Any ideas on weekend after? I'm off to the peaks.

Well, this weather has brought out a lot of dozy, considerably sized wasps!

Had to chase one out of the garage and had to nuke one in the lounge.

Hornet?

We’ve had a few in the house must be a nest somewhere nearby. Bloody terrifying looking things!

Mixed bag- keep an eye out for Sat. Won't be too hot, any way.

I did wonder if it was a hornet but I thought they were bigger.

Bit of a confusing picture. Far SE/East Anglia clings on to the warmth today. High pressure stays over Europe and influences the East/SE, while low pressure sits in the Atlantic and influences western parts more. A little bit of wax and wane and no clear winner .

Hopeful signs of a return to high pressure being more dominant next week, but far from certain.

Not a wash out, not summery - pleasant enough *spring* weather

Not all plain sailing though - those clouds over East Anglia could become pretty heavy thunder storms

The Hornets at my archery club are massive and orange rather than yellow. I'm not kidding, you can cut the last inch and a quarter off a Sharpie marker, and that's their size!

Big enough that it made a bunch of men, armed to the teeth, run for cover.
