My kids are doing a mountain bike race Sunday morning on the top of a hill in the New Forest.. BBC weather predicts a holocaust of thunder storms. Met office somewhat less dramatic. I'm hoping for the latter.
As always, tricky to forecast more than a day out. The scenario appearing is ripe for thunder though. Keep an eye on this twitter account - they are really very good at predicting which areas will get it worse: https://twitter.com/convectivewx
On the day, gotta keep an eye on the radar, storms can be very hit or miss: https://www.netweather.tv/live-weather/radar (there's a switch for lightning).

Yes the BBC forecast is a lot worse than Met Office for the BH weekend. BBC used to use the Met Office, so what happened? They've been quite poor lately so I'm hoping they are wrong!Hub said:

BBC dropped MetOffice, it's due to the unique way they are funded.... They found it more important to pay men higher wages than women than to pay for a decent weather service...Netweather said:
Then overnight, mid-level instability is expected to increase westwards across southern England from the near continent, as an elevated warm and moist plume of air undergoes isentropic lift as it rides W/NW atop cooler/drier NEly flow at the surface, the concurrent steepening of mid-level lapse rates will support an increase of elevated convection with a risk of scattered thunderstorms developing and spreading west across some southern counties of England overnight, perhaps reaching south Wales by the end of the night. Some of these storms may produce hail, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning and locally heavy rainfall rates that may lead to surface water flooding.
This is different to the rain that is currently passing WSW across Essex/Kent, and will go much further across the country. More of a WNW flow for the big storms

Well it did rain, but the crossing from Europe stopped almost all the thunder. My butts got a good filling
Next rain, later today as it warms up and more storms bubble up.
Today's warning area in graphic below. I'd expect the M4 corridor to be in the mix for all of the day. Then tonight, the East Coast area to receive storms from the continent.

Lot of rain just came down in West Berks and it's gone quiet dark! No thunder/lightning as of yet.
Yes, some sharp showers forming and heading straight for West Berks (Burghfield Common currently dodging them, as usual!). Suspect they'll turn thundery soon.My kids are due out orienteering at 6pm...
