I well remember 76. How long does this spell have to go to match it?

Heathrow 16 consecutive days above 30 degrees. Brutal!

A bigger worry is that even though it isn't as hot (nor is it going to be, cumulatively), it is going to be dry for a long time & there are approx. 10 million more people in UK now, and only one new reservoir built in 1981.

Met office thunder warning for today has stretched east to M25. Everything south of M4.

Like I said the other day;)

Heavy downpours might give the garden some respite, but are useless for reservoirs.

Admittedly I’ve only looked at the south but we had reservoirs and groundwater levels at or above average at the end of May. We’ll be able to see in a few weeks what effect this spell has had. It seems the report gets updated around the 11th.

Quite a few thunderstorms in the channel today to the south of Devon and Dorset

High of 28°C here today, now more bearable at 25°. The rain radar says it's drizzling but I can only assume it's evaporating before it gets to us.

Someone made a comment the other day and they may be right in that the heat from say 20 years ago was nice and warm/hot and dry but the heat we have today is much more humid and difficult to cope with - what gives?

20 years ago the heat was great - I remember playing football etc but couldn't imagine wanting to do it in this heat.

I would guess that is because you are 20 years older.

Its not. The heat very definitely feels different than it used to.

Even in the NE of Scotland I don't remember such a prolonged period of plenty of sun and little rain.

It's very dry up here.

But it’s not been humid! Here on the south coast the humidity is currently 45%, that’s about as high as it’s been since this heatwave started. It’s been noticeably dry if anything hence there being no dew on the car in the morning.

Recent mini heat waves have been caused by Spanish Plumes. Brief bursts of intense heat and humidity caused by the UK lying between high and low pressure.

The current spell (until today) has generally featured high pressure bang on top of the UK and high 20s heat but without humidity, mostly thanks to a weak easterly wind.

Humidity right up in the Thames Valley today. First time this year for the kids to sleep on the middle floor of our house, not in the attic.
