Gimp or not, we're a country governed heavily by lowest common denominator policy, whereby quantity of statistics (and or fines) generated seem to be the only important metric, and non of this nonsense ever gets reviewed or repealed, we're rapidly heading toward the legislation event horizon.

Terry Gilliams' Brazil seems reasonably prophetic.

i think the OP is that one irritating nostalgia gimp on social media who always posts stupid st like "if you grew up in the 50s/60s/70s please like and share, we went out at 8am and came back when we were hungry made our own box carts climbed trees and licked lead paint and we were fine if you like then like and share"
Definitely, and he'll be telling you which cup filled up first, and doing one of those ambiguous maths puzzles which "98% will fail"

I remember being 8 years old when they started showing Mighty Morphing Power Rangers in the school holidays on TV and there was an outcry of parents of people my age (so likely born in the 50s/60s) who said it should be banned as it was too violent for TV to show to kids, which of course just made us want to watch it more! Who's the snowflake generation now?

Little hint. I heard of soemone's being busted for 34 in a 30 hereabouts. Now, I use
my car's speed limiter. Just the other day, Plod skipped out from behind a building and
levelled his hairdryer at me. Tough, officer, my tech beat your tech. Arf, arf.
So you stuck it to the man by obeying the speed limit? I bet the police officer feels like such a boob.

Perhaps we could start a life hack thread with pearls of wisdom such as this.

Weird OP.
I'm a lefty through and through btw, I don't really see how that affects my driving. I watched all manor of car chase films throughout my formative years which probably does have some effect on my driving if I'm honest. I love overtaking in this country. Nobody does it and people go insane, I get genuine pleasure from it. At the right time and place speed limits mean nothing to me. Having said that, I'm very aware they exist and why. If i were to be pulled i'd certainly not start crying about it. Not convinced this makes me a pussy.

What does really annoy me is local lads hammering around housing estates like the roads are on fire with the stench of weed pouring from their cars. Its unlikey i ever say anything to this demographic as violence seems to be their chosen method of interaction. This may make me a pussy agreed.

What i cant get my head around is where the op distinguishes not speeding with being a pussy.

it's just incoherent bks though isn't it, what's being said....

what does lowest common denominator policy mean how does that relate to speeding on the motorway? What bigger agenda could there be... they've had speed limits on the motorway (and associated penalties) for almost as long as motorways have existed. They're far, far busier now... it's not always safe to even do 70mph... why do people react to this st? Most people in UK don't live in areas where there are lots of empty good quality roads. Driving is a social activity, like it or not... you are forced to interact with hundreds of other drivers every day... the people that say they just want to do what they want (and by implication, fk everyone else) can only really be quite poor drivers. It isn't about dumbing it all down to the level of those with the least skill, but it is about avoiding collisions because they happen all the fking time on the motorway. Instead of moaning and moaning about why speed limits should be removed/increased and how we should all just break speed limits and ignore NIPs (or whatever the fk you're on about, and whatever the fk that would seek to achieve) then why not focus on increasing standards of driving?

'Melt'.bring bring. The 1990s Essex new build estate wants their insult back.
If you say so, I won’t argue, but I’d have laid money
that it originated in South London in the nineties.
An insult that was used by my Scouse mum a long time before that.
Really? I’m a tad surprised, but I suppose that I shouldn’t be, Scousers are just
as quick and humorous as Cockneys with innovation, just with a different accent.

OP summed up in one sentence: barely coherent and illiterate rant by person stuck in idealised, rose tinted version of the past that never really existed, upset that no-one else seems to live in his delusion.

Basically old man yelling at sky. The "letter to the editor" types have finally began to use the interwebs.

BTW, when I was growing up I watched MacGyver and I've lost count of the amount of uses I have for a paperclip and a magnet. I guess not all is lost.

EDIT: Am I the only one who sees the irony of the OP asking "wtf happened to PH?" when his join date was 10 April 2018?

I would have said scouse - I definitely heard it before the 90s as in

"look at the daft melt"
"what are you doing, you fking daft melt"

Exactly. I get really annoyed by people who have the nerve to think that the roads are their private racetrack. My sons and their families are out there, why should they be put at risk by clots with no regard for the rules or other peoples' safety.

I do have sympathy with the posts about unnecessary speed limits. Those through Epping Forest are a good example. NSL to 40 for miles because of the born again bikers tearing up and down on Sunday mornings. Consequently everyone else has to sit there at a ridiculously slow pace all week, and the ruddy bikes still go sweeping past anyway! It's one of the reasons I gave up owning Caterhams.

I like cars, I have followed Motorsport all my life, raced karts with my kids, done ten years as a Marshall at Brands. I'm no car or speed hater. But if the OP wants some fun, why doesn't he join a car club, do some track days and get his rocks off that way instead of making life dangerous for the rest of, who are just quietly trying to get from A to B as safely as possible.

You can be a genuine petrolhead and not be interested in speed. If I won the lotto, my initial purchases would all be bubble cars. Love them.

A mate owns about half a dozen Harleys, from the 1920s and 30s. None of them go much over 40.

I expect the officer was thinking, 'good man, not speeding.' whereas I behaved and saved a bust and police time.

My licence is pointless, just like your comment.

April 11th was a particularly good day and then it went all tits out from there.......wobble

He'll probably come up with some "long time lurker" balls to cover that query.

Generally speaking, the biggest problem in relation to those people ranting about “countries going down the stter” is the very people themselves, NOT the actual country.

They tend to project a mirror image of their own insecurities/prejudice/fear/narrow minded views etc etc etc

I read that in the gaurdian once when recharging my leaf in Brighton I think.
