Haha. His videos almost persuaded me to buy a laserdisc player. Which would have been one of the most pointless things to ever own.
On the subject of redundant tech, I would say plasma screens. LCD just got better. Almost a format war but not really as you they are still compatible with everything.
Every time I watch one of his vids I seem to get a desire to buy some weird old Japanese tech. Fortunately for my wallet I haven't followed through yet. Plasma hasn't finished quite yet, there are still die hard fans who swear by their old Panny's or Pioneers as they deem LCD rubbish in comparison.

they've been constantly announcing the LCD that beats plasma for 15+ years. Hell maybe that statement/claim belongs to this thread. It certainly wasn't true back then...
As above, the "LCD" that beats plasma is an OLED. They're expensive, but then again so were plasmas back in the day.Matt Cup said:

OLED isn't LCD, with or without quote marks, they work in quite different ways.

Indeed, but the two are often conflated, hence the quote marks. They were making cellphones with OLED displays ten years ago and even then and in that application it looked remarkably better than LCD.
My first OLED was in a tiny MP3 player, 12 years ago!

Someone mention Zip disk earlier...YES and thank the Lord they are no more! The only time I knew of them was the 3 years at university as every computer there had a zip disk drive.
They were super unreliable, it was always hit or miss if your work would still be on your disk at the start of the week, we always had to make sure we backed up our work on our personal drives.
Still think I got the external zip disk drive at my parents home somewhere.

Has anyone mentioned the conga?
Good shout, that and the one people sat on the floor in a row and smacked the floor either side...My mate Mike insists on asking for it played at every wedding he goes to, and the DJ usually goes along with it, and everyone still seems to get involved, not sure its quite dead just yet but certainly its not getting played in every club or disco every Friday night.
Agony on the thighs though, I'm not as supple as I once was

That'll be me then. My Kuro pisses all over any LCD.
OLEDs are better than plasmas. As Phil Hinton from AVForums once famously said, 'The Kuro is an £8000 TV that Pioneer sold for £4000. They completely over-engineered the technology'. Which is why, my 9 year old Kuro can still hold its own against the latest LG panels.

Remember when he said "The LG FGE44500-EOFGG-3xx is a remarkably average television."?
Those were the days, eh?
