I should have been on road trip 6 now ,in Germany ,but due to "Stuff" I didn't go.

Rally Germany ,the WRC.

I want to go to a European round but the next nearest rounds are all on islands ,Corsica or Sardinia ,or there's Monte or SWeden,

both pigging freezing as they're the 1st and 2nd rounds in the depths of winter.

I nearly went to Finland in 2012 but that didn't happen either.

For clarity, those at the Real Drink Up event are the nucleus about which the Virtual Drink Up revolves. We go in person, they visit via the wonders of technology. We drink real ales and real spirits while they tell us about the real (or imaginary) drinks they are having (or pretending to have) in the comfort of their own homes or favourite pub or bar. We travel to London while they lord it up locally. We meet in person and exchange expensive gifts say 'Hi' awkwardly to one another like the people we've never actually met before that we actually are. We sit silently at a table in a ghastly pub in a railway station while they mock us and hurl abuse at us from a safe distance. When we've had enough we go and they stay because they're already there ie where they preferred to be all evening.

There's nothing quite like it.
By golly, Dicky, you can certainly serve up a cracking good sales pitch! smile Sounds unmissable!

I will certainly do my utmost to virtually join in, but I'm afraid the beer will have to be real. beer

Bomma, I'm sure we'd all love to see an upbucket of the old dog. Can't have Jussi hogging the limelight all the time, can we? wink

It's quite easy to post a picture, even I can do it.

If I can find an envelope.

And a stamp.

What was the address again? confused

Many pubs serve real ale.

But very few serve virtual ale.

scratchchin I imagine there is probably a very good reason for that but I can't put my finger on it.

All I know is: Reality is an illusion caused by lack of alcohol. teacherwobble

Morning all. I was just having a sort through my emails, I've had one from a Robert Shepherdecker offering to manage my pension for me. No problem my old fruit, I'll send the bloody lot to you and you can do what you like with it jester

Shepherdecker? I'd like to see you try to deck my shepherd. Have a lump out of your arse she would. Cheeky sod.

Talking of the old dog, I'm awaiting delivery of a new harness for her so when it arrives I'll post a photo of her resplendent in her new attire.

Should be today or tomorrow, so that's something to look forward to. If you like dogs, I suppose. I know Bobbers is quite keen.

yes Just as we were getting out of the car yesterday a lady with an elderly golden Labrador ambled past, being me I never miss the opportunity to fuss a dog so said hello and knelt down giving him a stroke, he was a lovely solid chap with a great temperament, his owner and I got to talking about him he was a rescue from a game keeper who'd mistreated him badly, when they first got him home he hid under the kitchen table and growled at anybody who went near him they'd done an amazing job of turning him into a very sociable lovely dog, they'd no idea how old he is and he's now got spine problems which mean he's on 14 tablets a day but he was very happy despite struggling to walk, she said he still insists on having a walk every day, his name is Yeager. I literally have a story like this every time I go out, I will always take time to make a fuss of dogs I see, they are amazing pets, loyal and loving without question!! smile

So true Bobbers.
I cannot stand anyone who treats animals cruelly. They should be locked up. irked
Surprised that a gamekeeper would behave in that way, most are benevolent to animals, despite the purpose of their profession.

Yeager? smile
Love the name, it stems from the German "Jäger" which means "Hunter".
Jägermeister means Huntmaster.

Prost! beer

I'm not sure I'd want to. There was some tinned prunes under the sink in the hangar, I see they've gone...

Anyhow, further to the business of the passing of my nephew, now the dust has settled a bit his work colleagues have had a 'whip round' and presented Mrs Nephew with a good few quid.

A marvellous gesture and totally unexpected. Quite heartwarming really smile

Morning all.

Apologies for my absence yesterday, it was a bit hectic (comparatively, as my days go). Landlord came to mow the grass, district nurse came to change my dressings, IV nurse came to IV me, Lovely GF came to walk a The Idiot, then drove me to the appointment with the consultant, which involved X-rays and a bit of technical stuff about lengthening/transport/shortening... the top and bottom of it is I am now back down to 4 separate 1/4 turns a day and the next surgery is scheduled for about 7 weeks. I’ve got 5cm more femur to grow (hence the operation being in 7 weeks, as that is a little over 49 days and I have 5cm/50mm lengthening to go, at 1mm per day - 50 days).

We are basically back on track with the “growing new bone timescale” and it now needs to be slowed down a bit so that what is grown can develop properly. Apparently, the bone graft taken from my hip will hurt, so I’m not massively looking forward to that bit. Once everything (bone wise) is joined up and healed, the next step is to remove the external clamps and rail, but leave the pins in situ, so I’ll look like I have a rather sparse metal Mohican on the outside of my leg... this is just in case there are issues and the bone needs more time to heal/develop, the rail can just be reattached to,take some of the load off the developing bone.

So all in all, generally good news. I’m a bit vague on the details/mechanics, but we did cover a lot yesterday.

ION, my Australian mate introduced me to a slice or two of beetroot on a burger. It’s fantastic. I recommend you give it a go, what with barbecue season now upon us (looks outside, sees its pissing down with rain. Barbecue season confirmed).

IOON, Lovely GF treated us to a celebratory Chinese last night (salt and pepper chicken wings and salt and pepper chips for me, vegetable fried rice for Lovely GF) but by Christ, I’ve been gasping for water all night and all morning! I even planned ahead and have “round two” for dinner tonight (beef and green pepper in black bean sauce, fried rice). I’ve just had “breakfast” of crumpets and Marmite. Nom.

Peri, that Perimid was great work (car manufacturers don’t make golf balls, they just get them printed up with a logo as a promotional item, but I rather suspect whoever posted that was aware of the fact). Having previously worked in a golf business, I know that a box of 500 golf balls weighed 23.8 kilos (and as with Woolworth’s pick and mix, that included the weight of the wrapping/box).

I was only me biggrinbowtie

I knew that!

Except for VW who have been into golfs in a big way first a long long time.
They made so many golf balls that they used spare ones as gearknobs. wink
