Ok, so I have a genuine question about housing and wondered if someone knew what the reasons behind certain decisions are..

So my mother lives in the wealthier part of a West Yorkshire town, which is full of large stone houses full of lovely trees in gardens etc and generally quite a nice prosperous feel about the place.

Since I was last back a few years ago, a number of Muslim families have started buying up properties (white flight is definitely kicking in), and coupled with a sudden explosion of high end sleek black Mercedes cars parked in the street, all the trees and greenery are essentially completely removed, and in go paving slabs and gravel, turning what used to be really nice places into slightly bigger versions of the bleak sthole terraced houses in the areas these Muslims have moved from.

So my question is why?
Why is all the greenery just ripped out? Is it haram? Is it simply something cultural, related to the sort of modern Saudi Arabian/UAE desert look?
Have other people experienced it?
Have I just become a bigot?!

is it the loss of trees you’re concerned about or the brown people moving into an otherwise respectable street?

How do you know what sky fairy they pray to by the colour of their Benz?

I have noticed wealthy indian families dont put a lot of truck in gardens. Perhaps a cultural thing.

Maybe some PEOPLE prefer not to have to maintain greenery and like the paved drive way look. Why would that have anything to do with their religion or ethnic orientation?

This is what he's asking though, is it a cultural or religious thing or just those that have moved in don't like gardening?

Well being muslim and having Pakistani heritage, I can confirm as far as i am aware it is not a cultural or religious practice.
Hope this eleviates your curiosity.

I recommend that they move to a quaint part of London called Whitechapel. Unlike the rest of London (which might as well be called Brownmosque), Whitechapel is an oasis of purity. Tell them that there's no need to check the area out. Just find a broker to purchase a condo in one of the luxury high rises and make the move. They won't regret it.

and not seeing your mother for a few years is bad business. You should see her more often.

While you're there ask her why you shouldn't start sentences with'so'.

If it's on the pavement, wouldn't it be the council removing them?

Maybe the local Merc dealer lets you p/ex a tree against a new black merc? It could be a "tree year pcp deal"....

You can only get these special deals at certain Mercedes branches

I think it is a nouveau riche thing, along with the concrete lions.

We don't have many ethnic minorities in Hull but the felling mature trees and replacing with block paving is definitely a thing here as well.

As a countryside-dwelling, tree-planting Muslim - and proud Yorkshireman - I hope not this.

That won't help him get to the root of the issue though.

Not taking care of parents is a British cultural thing.
