Swinging back to warm here today, Netweather suggesting highs of 17 degrees!
Yep, large area of low pressure of our Atlantic coast sucking the warmth up from down south. A temporary blip - similar to Ophelia last year.

Indications remain for high pressure to remain to our NE - normally this would amplify the chances of cold (and snow...) significantly, but the season is early and I suspect Europe/Russia isn't cold enough.

But, but...It always rains in Wales.
So if it's amber, it's going to be biblical!

High pressure starting to arrive. This will bring some stonking autumn weather, and a risk of fog.

Stonking how?
Crisp sunny days, and hopefully still some colour on the trees.

Models are pointing to a massive Scandi high forming in a week or so.

Nirvana for cold fans in deep winter. Will be interesting to see what it delivers this early in winter.

Last winter's Sudden Stratospheric Warming is still influencing the weather.

The models are beginning to show alignment for a beast from the east. I'm yet to be convinced in its potency so early in the season.

Forget the easterly. Signs of a long term northerly forming. Watch this space...

Just a potent blast.

There are positive signals for a 2009/2010 winter. The polar vortex is smashed to pieces. There is no sign of the jet stream establishing. Signals for high pressure in the north Atlantic.

Plenty of charts pointing towards Greenland highs, northerly winds, easterly winds. Signs remain VERY positive. But they are just signs - 6 days and more away.

So a positive outlook for cold after today's warmth. But no snow forecast, at this point. Cold charts can disappear as quickly as they come - especially when it's the GFS.

Next week cooler - proper cold will arrive on the continent but not really make itself felt here. That's a good building block for any subsequent cold and again, another good signal for a cold winter for us.

Many charts show mouth-watering cold developing for the following week. Plenty of caution, as not all charts are on board, and it's more than a week out.

Lots of flip flopping, but generally the charts are improving.

No one is saying a true taste of winter is coming, plan remains the same. Cool weather arriving within 1-2 days. Possible cold follows next week.
