Dusting of snow near Lewes in Sussex, rain is washing it away now though.

Ground and cars were covered with snow at 3am in Brighton - a bit of rain has washed most of it away now.

Obscure fact - on this day in 1962 it snowed in Yorkshire, the beginning of the snowiest winter in my lifetime. This may or may not turn out to be a portent! I'll report back in spring!

(We moved house that day and I clearly remember snow falling as the removal men carried stuff into the house)

Edit...and it was a Wednesday!

It was snowing between J8 and J9 on the M25 last night as I drove home around 10pm. Reports of light settling from friends around Surrey and Hants.

All very encouraging!

Every year!

Models are in complete disarray. One minute showing snowmeggedon and next showing a hair dryer from the SW.

What this generally means is no jet stream - they are all programmed to consider our weather coming from the Atlantic with streams of lows as the number one weather type. When it just isn't going to happen, they flounder.

Light snow here in Surrey too last night as above.

I looked out the window at 1am and some cars ,garage roofs and a little bit on the ground.

Quite surprised seeing as Puggit's snow forecast post was for tomorrow and didn't really include this far south east.

Stand down. That pesky El Niño half a world away has caused a ripple which is going to power up the Atlantic. Probably for less than a week.

There is still no polar vortex, which is normally at fault when the Atlantic gets going. So still to play for further down the line.

2 degrees here in north Essex and the car was already lightly frosted when I went to get my husband from the station. First "proper" cold I've seen so far this winter!

Just back from an evening bike (cycle) ride, Maidenhead / Cookham area. The Garmin bike computer showed between 0c and -2c with a gin clear full moon lit sky. It was nice.

We've had another 1ft+ of the white stuff overnight - and it is still snowing hard.

There is a Subaru Outback under here somewhere.

Snow plow hard at work - note the snow pile in the background.

Back to the UK; looks like we are to get some warm'ish wet and a good blow from the Atlantic this coming week rather than all this blocking pattern boringness.
