The wet and windy, with occasional snow, 2018/2019 thread
Discussion
Ground and cars were covered with snow at 3am in Brighton - a bit of rain has washed most of it away now.
Obscure fact - on this day in 1962 it snowed in Yorkshire, the beginning of the snowiest winter in my lifetime. This may or may not turn out to be a portent! I'll report back in spring!
(We moved house that day and I clearly remember snow falling as the removal men carried stuff into the house)
Edit...and it was a Wednesday!

It's certainly ramping up for a massive disappointment.
Every year! Models are in complete disarray. One minute showing snowmeggedon and next showing a hair dryer from the SW.
What this generally means is no jet stream - they are all programmed to consider our weather coming from the Atlantic with streams of lows as the number one weather type. When it just isn't going to happen, they flounder.

It doesn't stop me getting my hopes up. The hail is lying like snow in sheltered spots round here.Models are in complete disarray. One minute showing snowmeggedon and next showing a hair dryer from the SW.

Stand down. That pesky El Niño half a world away has caused a ripple which is going to power up the Atlantic. Probably for less than a week.
There is still no polar vortex, which is normally at fault when the Atlantic gets going. So still to play for further down the line.
