Then...? Beast from the East territory. An amazingly strong and cold wind appearing on GFS and ECM models for following weekend. Obviously way outside reliable time frame.
I agree, looking last night, 31st Jan stood out as a potential kick-off point, could be impressive - As you say, margins are fine this far out. From Tuesday next week the wind will start swinging toward the East and I think we're going to notice!!

We still have a sprinkling of lying snow from yesterday morning - it's a great location for keeping the snow once it comes down !

No snow, just another cold & frosty start, but should be a nice day. Heading north tomorrow so expecting snow from around 600m.

Glencoe doesn't appear to have had any more overnight. Looks cold!

Uh oh, I'm driving from Cardiff to Gatwick on the 1st of Feb - should I be considering some winter tyres?

We are a week away, and until we're 2-3 days away, something as incredibly wintry as this has a very nasty habit of disappearing.

However, the most likely outcome at the moment is either cold or very cold - with snow possibilities (ie not cold and dry!). Certainly I'd advise everyone to start thinking ahead. Just common a common sense approach to winter - not a full scale panic!

We *could* be on the verge of a wintry spell that we'll remember for a long time smile

No downgrades overnight. The 6am GFS is rolling out and makes pleasant viewing for snow fans towards next weekend.

To put some meat on the bones, when the easterly starts, it continues with high pressure over southern Greenland and Iceland, and a low pressure trough continuously feeding bands of snow in to southern England from the east.

If we have a whip round can you go and buy and install another Rayburn?

This is good news.

Netweather, and various weather apps can't seem to make their minds up. Snow one day, no snow the next. Still though, they're never very accurate. smile

biggrin I have wood, oil, a Disco on winters, crampons, skis and three excited kids with sledges. I don't think a Rayburn will do it.

I'm not sure how much longer my AWD run around will last so can we get some snow soon please! Want lots of fun in it before it destroys itself.

Pretty please.

Just been to Sainsburys for lunch in Kent

Was absolutely mental, like Christmas levels of busy, all checkouts open, queues into the aisles

Spoke to the checkout lady and commented how mad it was, she said "yeah snow has been forecast so everyone is panicking"

Blew my mind
