Spot The Ball competitions, and doing the Pools.

(I'm sure you can still do both, but you'd have to go looking for them, rather than being a thing in every household).

I remember my Mum telling my Dad what a bad idea it was he'd voted to join the EU.
If possible, go back and tell your Mum that your Dad did NOT have a vote to join the EU.
Unless they lived in the Republic of Ireland, as they had a vote on the matter in 1972.
Not to join the EU they didn't.

Only at the Ryder Cup. A bit rude, but traditional.

When watching snooker on the telly was more effort than it was worth...

Reminds me of: 'For those of you watching in black and white, Arsenal are in the red shirts'.

Off topic point but American Football, the NFL regulations state that in any match the teams kit must be sufficiently different enough from each other to be distinguishable on black and white TV, even in 2018. Two completely different colours might be the teams "home" kits, but they could look the same on black and white, so usually one team (often the home team) will put on their "road" kit which will be predominantly white or black

The ironmonger's in Sheringham is the shop you are looking for. The gents in brown store coats will sell you what you need in the quantity you need.
Blyth and Wright is the shop you're talking about - it seems to be much the same now as it was when I was growing up in Sheringham in the 60s.

Didn't Alex Higgins and co. have pints of booze on the go as they played?

I vaguely remember something along those lines.

I only remember watching it on a new-fangled colour tv btw.

The puppets on Thunderbirds used to smoke as well!

Seems very weird now to have kids program with smoking!

Old enough to remember when you bought motor oil it was in containers with a metal strip across the toop which you tore off.

And Holts aerosols which stopped working when still half full.

Turtle Wax and Simoniz was about the only car polish and you used a stockinette to polish off.

That was from a time when you couldn’t look up old comedy sketches on YouTube. Instead you could buy vinyl recordings of favourite TV shows.
