I actually met her the second time he saw her, nice girl, super smart, they looked like a happy couple. She's from Spain but 'working' in SG. Kinda weird to see him sitting there carrying on as he's also married (it's pretty miserable marriage truth be known) and i known the wife for 15 years.

Then tells me he's seen her twice more there, taken her to Amsterdam, flown her to Dubai and next month taking her to America (he's got a bit of cash).

Now it seems they're planning a future, she's off the game, he's getting divorced etc..

Part of me wishes him good luck, he's pretty happy. But another part of me wants to caution him, she's been married three times prior (she's 35, he's 46), has a teenage son, he's funding her lifestyle completely and to be honest, my mate's so crazy I reckon he's an 'easy mark'
Your judging her by the standards of western women, which is a mistake..... Failed marriages are a bigger problem in the west because expectations are higher and marriages are seen as being disposable, women (or rather a certain type) especially don't see why they need to put in any effort, they can just move on to the next cash cow relatively easily. Most UK women living with well off men (as in capable of supporting 2 adults on 1 wage), would be off like a prom dress if the guy lost his income and threat of losing her Porsche Cayenne school run car was looming overhead.

That said i'm not sure if Spanish women are the same, Spain is more Roman Catholic and those values echo through their society even if people are not religious, which may explain why of course she ended up in SG.

Must be the circles I work and socialize in, but I know loads of guys with foreign wives that have worked out great. One of them is me. Married 4 years, 2 kids, everything is great, my wife is African.

Local gym owner married a Philippino, 1 son, must be married 20 years now. He had to give her family money when he met her.

Lad at my old factory. Brought a Thai bride over, still going strong after 9 years.

J, lives in Thailand with his wife, 1 son. Another on the way.

R, Ghanaian wife, lives in the States, 2 Children, both grown up.

M, Nigerian wife, 2 kids, been together 10 years, married 5. Though previously divorced (twice)

The service manager I met recently, Azerbaijani wife, 2 daughters, over 10 years married.

C, not married but been with S for longer than the the 5 years I've known him. 1 daughter.

W, married, 2 Children, Nigerian wife, don't know him too well tbh, but they've been together a while.

G, 1 daughter, Nigerian wife. K is a great girl, both living happily in Scotland.

A, 5 kids, was married over 20 years when his wife passed away suddenly, he was living Calibar at the time. Never met his wife, but I know A very well.

D, Italian, must be close to 60, has lived in the UK over 20 years with his African wife, both daughter's grown up, still happily married.

There are lots more I know of. I know 2 that didn't work out, one was a straight divorce, as she basically went back to Africa, another was one of the wife's mates, she came home too, married an Indian guy.

When I compare these guys with my old school mates who married British wives, most are divorced!

On another note, the girls don't get it easy either. Loads of guys promise the earth, fail to deliver and leave them with kids. I know one guy (British) who travels to Thailand on his time off, leaving his African wife and kids at home.

Everyone deserves a chance of happiness.
I thought this was about escorts?

I’m assuming none of the above were prostitutes?

One of my best mates married a Frenchman and I can assure you he was not on the game.
I think this emphasizes that how meet your partner is very important.
I'd say most were in the bar or a bar. The first time they met, money will have exchanged hands. You'd be a total and utter idiot if you didn't want to give them something, so at the minimum, they can get home.

Im not going to go into much detail, it took me a few years to understand that despite everything some have been through, they're are still decent people making honest and loyal wives, grateful everyday for the life some have given them.

If he's happy good for him. Sounds like he's not exactly been a saint himself so if her Escorting days don't bother him then crack on.

Maybe there are more men out there that have no idea of a partners past and have been blissfully happy for the last 20yrs......

Now I think about it, the story he was told was she's only on the game on/off. Run a few businesses, trying to make ends meet etc.. I did think it sounded suspect. Reckon I'll tell him I think that's what's going.

Living in SE Asia I’ve lost count of the amount of times expats say their Thai/Viet/Cambo wife only worked at the bar for 2 weeks/5 days/2 hours before they rescued them.

Talk to the wife and you can clearly see they are ex bargirls. Once they get to 30 they are too old.

I met my wife in a bar.

My wife once went to a gathering organised by Indonesian embassy for expats. She came back asking why the English only married bargirls/ working girls... the answer is pretty obvious - that’s who you meet (outside work). We met when I was looking for a new office (she was in real estate) but we normally tell people we met in a bar...

OP, isn't it easier for your 'mate' to just bang the chicks and not make them his GF/Wife? A zebra never changes it's stripes as they say...

Started reading this last night and couldn't put it down - finished at 7am and thought st it's time to get up for work! Never read a book cover to cover in one sitting before.
I'll admit, I gave it a look yesterday at work on my lunch. Finished at 2 am this morning and to say I'm not a book person would be putting it mildly. That shows how gripping it was. Other than kids books, I've never read a book from start to finish in one hit, and never wanted to.

No idea why I felt I couldn't go to bed without finishing it, I've never been to BKK, it's never appealed to me in the slightest, but I know a lot that have and once I started reading it I simply could not stop, huge thumbs up to the author. It's not got me wondering whether I should look at some of his other titles.

And a massive thanks to 2Btoo who posted the link - it wrecked my plans for the entire evening, but was 100% worth it.

It was rather 'moreish'. I think it was the fact it was so simple and believable, very easy to read.

Must admit, there were a couple of occasions (ok, more than a couple) where I wanted to grab the protagonist Pete and give him a damn good shaking. Get your head together man! punch

I liked the way each section was written from different people's perspectives so you could see how differently they interpreted the situation.

I started off feeling sorry for Pete and then realised he was just as despicable as every other lowlife character in the book; not a single redeeming feature in any of them! The ending was particularly apt.
I read the book in one sitting the other night too; thank you for the link. I think I know the answer to this question; did the boy Pete coincidentally get taken out by the lorry that was mentioned, or did the suicide squad on the motorcycle get to him?

I don't know the answer to this question though... Pete said upon catching a whiff of Joy's smell / perfume or whatever - that he had smelled it before, but he couldn't remember where / when - I'm guessing that was never picked up on again; was it?

I’m a bit dyslexic, so don’t really read books!

For those of us who don’t want/have time to read it... give us the tit-bits smile
