Some of the presents for the little ones this year will be 2nd hand.

The scene of entitlement in getting so many gifts, let alone new ones is absolutely sickening. We simply have no need for all this "stuff".

And the prices for some of these lumps of plastic kids toys are absolutely eye-watering.

I collect old vinyl, old toy cars, old clothes and old books and could always do with spares for old cars (replace 'old' with 'vintage' if you're of a trendy bent) - examples of all can be found to suit any budget. However, my family refuse to give second-hand presents, which is probably one reason why I don't enjoy the season. Unless its an accurate reproduction of an older item or a book of previously unpublished motoring research, I don't really want anything new.

I don't see any issue myself. There's no way around it if it's a long out of print book or album etc. I usually keep the boxes / manuals stuff comes with which helps when you come to resell on eBay etc & it seems a lot of other people do the same too.

We've got our daughter a second hand Nintendo DS for christmas. She's 6, and her cousin has one so she wanted one, but only the same as Isla...

Which was a result as the first gen ones are £30 in good condition with the box etc. I then went and won a job lot of used games for £25...

She'll be over the moon, I won't have spent £130 on a new, current one that she will drop, leave places and her 3 year old brother will get hold of, or that she'll be bored of by March!

I'd be fine with second hand stuff, but everyone always just buys me beer, which is also fine

You could be me or perhaps my twin brother.

My family are the same, sending me new stuff every year that I really don't want, need or will use. I'd have thought that after over 60 years of knowing me they'd be aware of my likes and dislikes, apparently not.

I think it depends to whom the gift is given and what the gift it. Second hand bottle of wine? Perhaps not. But second hand Iphone for a 6 year old, sure...(if anyone is giving their 6 year old a phone, I know not!)

Funny wifes got a tiffany necklace on ebay at the moment and someone just asked if we had a tiffany bag as he wants to make it look new.

Depends what it is but I don't see the problem with electronics, books etc if they are in good condition. Some of my most treasured books were given to me secondhand as Christmas presents
