Would you buy a gift card from them as a present?

My sister wants one and considering they aren't doing well financially and Mike Ashley has publically stuck his oar in, how long do people think they will last?

Just give her the cash, it's a safer bet.

I got a feeling their time will come soon frown

Get a one for all giftcard. Covers debenhams but if it goes tits up you have a load of other shops to use it in.

I think Debenhams will be sunk if they don’t have a good Christmas.

Wouldn’t trust a gift card from them. Get an all-in-one card instead (gives you a variety of shops to use it in)

I would strongly suggest, ‘No’.

It'd be a shame, but I was in there for the first time in years recently and there were staff everywhere. They still have those little counters for perfume, make-up and watches etc that each have their own dedicated little team.

It's clearly not sustainable.

Giftcards.

I'm going to take this perfectly good £20 note that you can spend anywhere, and lock you in to only spending it with a plastic card at this specific shop within the next 6 months.

No.

But of course this then compounds their problem.

Those little counters for perfume, make up etc are called concessions and are nothing to do with Debenhams as such, they just rent space on their shop floor due to it being a department store and having a large foot fall.

Rather like your local barber, if he doesn’t own the barbers, the chances are he rents a chair from the owner. Same principle.

Good suggestion, thanks.

Trustpilot doesn't give this option good reviews, quite opposite infact..

Money (cash) is always seen as the “can’t be bothered” present, but is a much safer gift in there uncertain times. A present that is worthless in the event of a company failure leaves both giver and receiver embarrassed and out of pocket.
