Do we know anyone who has ever driven a Marcos?

A 3 litre Marcos is on my list just below a TVR Vixen (or Tuscan). But I've never met anyone with whom to have the Marcos driving position, performance, roadholding, handling, reminiscing, grinning, arm waving conversation.
Sat in a couple at the NEC last year and had a long conversation with one of the owners who said he preferred them to TVRs of the period. Lots of variations in drivetrain and wheel / tyre combos, all down to personal choice of course but I found the driving position very comfortable, I'm 5'3'' (just) and he was at least 6'0'' so that says a lot. Factory made booster cushions were available when the cars were new which would probably help! I think his particular card had the Essex V6 fitted, plenty of torque on offer and a good power to weight ratio. The word 'cockpit' is bandied about a lot when we waffle on about old cars but I think it applies to the Marcos more than any other car I've sat in. I've yet to drive a TVR...

Isn't it the case that in the Marcos the seats are fixed but the pedals are adjustable for reach ?

Bit of a faff for multiple drivers of one car.

The head honcho at Marcos was very tall IIRC and moveable pedal box a neat solution. Now I think of it, wouldn't the master cylinder or cylinders move at the same time?

I've never been in a Marcos but a chap I went beating with had one, looked very similar to this,

But different wheels, he was in publishing.

I've bought another Lego set, VW Beetle this time, and we've just signed up to Prime!!!

My fear with the Marcos is that it would turn out to be a triumph of form over purpose whereas with the early TVRs I don't care, I just like the shape sufficiently to live with any shortcomings.

So do the abilities of the Marcos match its looks?

A colleague several jobs ago turned out to be the long time owner of a Gilbern Invader, another car I fancied back in the mists of time. He described it as a bit of a lump. I was so disappointed.

Yes, Jem Marsh was about fifteen foot tall and sat in the prototype GT while the Admas brothers designed the cockpit around him. The entire pedal box including the clutch and brake cylinders moves back and forth on a thread controlled by a wheel just under the steering column, it only takes a few seconds to find the right position...

If I forego the estimable pleasures of yet another P5B and plump for Marcosdom instead I'll have to change my name to Barry, and maybe purchase a dolly bird called Brenda for good measure...

Oh well ,that big knob...oo er ,to adjust the pedals is easier than I expected.

I assumed ,wrongly , you had to get your spanners out to do it....paperbag

Nah, just a knob twiddle for the pedals but you do need to spend a couple of minutes spannering under the bonnet to adjust the reach and rake of the steering wheel, which makes the driving position even better.

I just love the shape and how low it is.... part E-Type, part Ferrari 275GTB from some angles, if they were Italian and had steel bodies they'd be worth hundreds of thousands by now...

The green one was some sort of prototype and raced originally so it’s got a fixed pedal box. I’ve come across three others locally in the last year and two were original racers for less than 8k. One was in Rothmans colours and was a great looking barn find with straw in it n’all.
I was amazed at how the engine frame was bolted to the ends of the ply chassis with just two short 5/8” bolts each side. Mental.
It’s great the car stuff one comes across in the course of doing ones own car. One

How long is a piece of string question .

The Euro is getting better value daily but it'll only take one setback to make it worthless again.

I will need lots n lots of em to take on the mega road trips ,so am wondering when would be a good time to pull the trigger

at the Bureau de Change.......confused

I might withdraw a few quids and change some before the next government cock up makes it drop like lead.
