I was just having an interesting discussion with someone on the Sneakers Discord about GR vs hype. My claim was that a lot of GRs are amazing and in quite a lot of cases are a more appealing proposition than hyped or collab pairs and that the reason most people say that a hyped pair are 'fire' (as I believe the kids say) is because they've been conditioned to think that (they want them because other people want them) and that objectively they can look a bit gash.
Yesterday's CPFM Vapormax was a good example. I mean, they look pretty f*cked, even for my tastes, yet people were falling over themselves to get a pair. There are far, far nicer GR Vapormax around than the CPFM. The TS1 is another one. Yay! A brown J1 that looks like it has slipped through quality control.
I totally understand wanting to get a pair because it's rare but the blind worship of anything that ends up being raffled whilst totally dismissing GR is foolish.
Long live GR.

Inclined to agree. Also most GR pairs end up on sale somewhere so you can pick them up cheaper!Yesterday's CPFM Vapormax was a good example. For me the ltd release like the cactus plant ones are more “out there” in style and this is the kind of thing i like. One of my favourite watches is my yellow corum bubble for example.
My want doesn’t come from the rarity but the style it’s just that often they go hand in hand.
On the other side my friends kid asked me to get him “something Off White” when i asked what he wanted his response was anything as long as Off White!

Hype is just that - hype.
Some folk get sucked into the whole thing and if they have fun in the process, it's all good.
Not my thing tho.
My last few purchases have been a mixture of GR (Hummel, NB, LCS, Saucony) and collab (Asics, Hummel, Diadora).
I just buy what I like; some of it is mass produced, some of it is limited run.
I don't get involved with the big hype stuff - I'm lucky, I suppose, in that it's just not my thing (neither the getting caught up in it and being part of the "in-thing" side of it, or the actual shoes themselves), so there's less chance of me missing out.
