We all like a nice pair of trainers, but for me I go no further than classic £60 Adidas Samba etc. But could someone please explain this for me....

A friend of mine has a son aged 19 living at home and in education. He has a part tine job in a fancy clothes shop that sells very expensive branded clothes. With a little staff discount he purchased a pair of their £800 trainers from them but by means of an advance on his wage. So now he will be working there for quite a few months with all his wages being taken by his employers until the trainers are paid for.

WTF????
What brand? That's even more expensive than crap like Gucci and Balenciaga.

To be fair when I was 19 I was buying £200-£250 jackets, but if needed I could sell them for pretty much what I bought them for. Buying some £800 trainers that can be ruined on a night out seems madness to me, and that's without getting the advance from your employer. That £800 could have gone towards driving lessons or the first bit of his house deposit.

We've become a generation of people who are 'living for the gram', just showing off expensive purchases to keep up with what other people are doing. I know lads who are the same, who have expensive stuff, but they'll have absolutely nothing in the bank and are living payday to payday, doesn't really seem worth it when you look at it like that, not to me anyway. At the same time though, at least they're enjoying it, you never know what's round the corner, I do think most people should save a little bit more though, if they're buying expensive stuff.

I genuinely find it quite sad to be honest. I’ve got a younger cousin that has a few Cartier bracelets and a couple of Rolex but he lives with my uncle and aunty at 28 and I’ve no doubt they paid for all of his jewellery but he will look down his nose at someone with their own mortgage etc cos they aren’t wearing decent clothes and watches laugh easy to criticise when you weren’t brought up with Instagram and Facebook etc though I guess.
People have always sought to show off, that's nothing new and predates social medias by hundreds of years.

However, social media, and in particular, Facebook & Instagram, has weaponised the concept.

I've said this before, but Instagram has created generations of narcissists; it's toxic, in my opinion.

Sounds like we're into very similar stuff, we may have crossed paths at some point on social media somewhere.

That's why I usually just sell to lads who are vouched or from the forums I'm on, otherwise you get pissed around or the gits try and say your goods never turn up, but the FB pages are where you get good money rather than ok money.

Those 30th Anni smocks are fetching good money. Beware of buying anything without a certi logo now, plenty of fakes around, google 'Busystone' and have a browse, the quality is getting better and better, scary really!

Best leave this here, otherwise I'll be talking about it all all night beer
Busystone! Had to check that out...mental. Almost tempted to buy an item out of curiosity. Have you ever seen any of their stuff in real life?
I'm just after taking a look. When you're paying the best part of £200 for a genuine replica Clone Island jacket, you're actually taking a significant bite out of the money that would've bought you the real McCoy. The one time I really fell for an SI jacket I would have bought it on the spot but (mercifully) it did not fit impeccably.

Oh, and the lead photo of the guy with the Stone Island compass shaved into his hair has me devising a way to run myself over with my own car as release from the cringe.

I'd say 95% of the Canada Goose jackets I see are fake. Moncler isn't far behind.

There's a college near my office with all these students without a pot to piss in, walking around in £800 to £1200 coats.

Yeah right boys...

I wouldn't take Stone Island, Canada Goose, Moncler etc stuff for free.

Each to their own, mind, but I wouldn't be seen dead in it, especially Stone Island - way too much negative association.

I don't own any of those 3 brands. I do like CP COMPANY though. Some of their materials and dyeing processes are great. I like MA.STRUM too.

CP do some nice garment dyed stuff but the goggles on the hoods just don’t do it for me on lots of their stuff. I do have a nice Mille Miglia from them but I think I’ve only worn it two or three times.

Stone Island jackets fit me really well and I usually take the badge off unless it’s a ghost or shadow or ice piece, but they do attract a certain type of buyer nowadays unfortunately. P&S ticks all boxes for me though, although it is a bit worrying that they’ve created a “Crew” cheaper sub brand...

Over in Northern Ireland, I truthfully don't see enough Stone Island worn to get any negative association from it. Drake embracing the brand did a lot more to kill its appeal to me than lads slapping each other at football and ruining their financed jackets. I see it most commonly in nightclubs, where it's a safe bet the lad wearing it is taking white off his car key.

Honestly man, no need to even slightly justify your choices to me smile

I've never liked Stone Island because of the football association, and the type of people I see wearing SI now makes me want to avoid it even more.

As I said tho, definitely each to their own - would be bloody boring otherwise!

I’m in the market for a good quality, waterproof ‘parka’ type coat, but with the shops shut, it’s difficult frown

Not sure? I have the funds, but not sure I’d want to worry about the coat too much, if you get what I mean?

Google image search Alpha Industries parka. Plenty of choice of styles and colours.

Can't go wrong with North Face IMO. Pretty cheap at outlets (when open) and they do the job.
