Keep telling yourself that...
You gave your toddler an iPad.
iPad mini actually and yes she does have access to her own iPad for a max of 1hr per day - it’s a great learning tool and recommended by her school as they also use them for the JollyPhonics and a couple of other learning tools.

What’s your point dear??

Only skimmed it as I was looking for the 'Compo. face' photos... sadly not included.

However it looks like the lady who flagged up the 'chips taste like potato' issue in the first place has joined the 'below the line comments':

I agree with you General. Working Class as a social group has been used for a very long time. I would say that we all know what it means. Council, as defined by this thread is much more recent and, I believe, is a state of mind with certain traits and attributes which are far from someone who is 'working class'.

Is George Smiley council or working class? We willl never know as his time in MI6 made him very adept at keeping secrets.shootcool

Working class traditionally couldn't afford housing, this is why post war after the working class slums were pulled down, Bevan gave them council estates. Then in the early 80s financiers tapped into the market offering them mortgages, this has led to many a working class person mistaking their true colours. We then had huge boom and bust. Then Thatcher introduced Right to Buy which enabled many to hugely profit (unfairly), then we had more boom then a recession. Then we gave them easy financed, we then had boom followed by recession. In fact, we can directly link every recession to offering credit to those who cannot afford it.

Thus, its easy to understand, unless you were born into true middle or upper classes, you are council.

what's the issue here then? cos she has a point, those portion sizes are pretty pathetic. here in east london a small portion of chips is £2. i get 3-4 times as much chips as served in that picture. a small one fills up an entire plate. a large gives you a mountain of chips enough for 3-4 people. at my local even a 'childs' portion at £1 has twice the amount shown there.

Portions are perfect sized for any decent human. Since 2000 our portion sizes have doubled hence fat people everywhere.

No. Not all working class are council. There is a big difference between the bloke who works a "working class" job and gets on with his life, and the bloke who works a similar job going back to his house that has LIVE LOVE LAUGH plastered on the living room wall, cracks open a cold stella, and then sits down on his garden couch (sunny innit) to watch the football on his phone while his wife Jade yells at him for not putting the Lambrini in the fridge.

How do you define a working class job? I see it as thus:

White collar = Maximum position held is Secretary/PA.
Blue collar = anything less than the above.

As with many benefits, it is impossible to means assess so we have to lump them all together. Then again, working tax credits = benefits = council.

both can live their lives how they want as long as they don't try to irritate mine. as much as I'm not a fan of dinner plates that say 'BREAKFAST LUNCH DINNER' on them i'm doing going to give a crap wondering how many people on my street have one.

According to my father, your class is based on your family. So because he was working class (worked in the mines until his forties), I am working class. Despite the fact that he is now head of the electrical engineering department at his work and I am a lawyer in the City. laugh

It is difficult to define "working class" as it isn't a monetary thing. Council is a bit easier though.

Oh absolutely, live and let live and all that.

Doesn't mean we can't have a laugh at big Gazza with his jetski and 10 year old Range Rover on finance though.

Goes on a bit, but the gist is that bloke buys a mini pool thing, punctures it, tries to take it back, gets ‘treated like a shoplifter’.

Gloucester is going to get a nomination for being 'Council' at this rate - thats two stories from gloucestershirelive, and again the below the line comments do not fail to deliver:

"Can't believe it, I had the very same problem....until my wife stopped swimming with her stilettos on!"

"Put it down to experience mate, get yourself down the pub and have a shandy. "

...and some rambellings about buying a car...

World of difference. You can be loaded and council hence the numerous nominations for pink Range Rover Sports.

I'd say the other way around too. Some of the people I have admired the most have been very much working class, and about as far from 'council' as it is possible to get, even if they actually live on a council estate.
