Back to heat...

Last Thursday's recording of 38.7 in Cambridge is OFFICIAL. Hottest day - ever...
I was stuck on Cambridge Station that afternoon; meltdown is the adjective for the railway service, the humans, the aircon machinery.....

Mrs Puggit is in Cardiff this week, I've warned her she's at the centre of the expected weather biggrin

Low pressure system will come up from the SW - there is uncertainty, but it looks quite powerful.
I work in Cardiff and today the traffic leaving work due to the nice weather due to everyone being in Barry blood island leaving at the same time as people leaving work was stupid. Hopefully the st weather tomorrow reduces the traffic so can get home quicker.

Good advice for brummie "if you feel your hair stand on end, it means lightening is going to strike, drop to the ground and adopt the brace position"

I noticed this strategy on new street Saturday night.

Today's low is incredibly slow moving, currently centered over Torquay and moving North East as I write.

Very well defined on Netweather.tv animated radar images

Friday's forecast stays broadly similar - the trough has moved slightly west, and is now modeled as a convergence zone (heavier rain, possible thunder).

Following that - looks like a north/south split is favoured. Lows affecting the north and west, more influence from high pressure to the south east.

Met office was predicting lightning from 11am to 4pm here in Somerset but that's now only showing as occuring at 5-6pm so guessing something has changed dramatically. To me it doesn't feel 'warm' enough for a proper storm.

No lightning and doubtful that we will get any but this is proper weather, something is happening.

The current low is like a tiny little baby hurricane. Total cloud cover, showers and very windy here but still 19c. Perfect.

Don't know if it's related, but we have no phone signal. Trees have certainly fallen on the railways according to SWT.

Gusty, periodic very heavy rain. Looks like the southern side of the inner band is about to hit us...

Yes, getting more blowy here.

I've just gone onto Wundermap and played the animation back. It seems the center of the low has tracked from Salisbury and is now over Oxford (in the animations current time period). There are also a line of quite heavy showers rotating round to the South will soon be to the East of the low. Whether they hit East Berks is speculation but it will be close.

It is really quite spectacular watching the animation.

Perfect summers day, exciting weather.
