That was a morning of biblical rain. Lots of standing water on the roads. There was a crash on the A34 northbound where the road usually ends up collecting a lot of standing water. Looks like it's cleared up now though.
Every time it rains like than the pedestrian underpass floods at my local train station.

Was bad on the M25 in Essex and into Kent this morning. Obviously not bad enough for some who thought that they wouldn't bother with any lights at all (those blasted running lights again; when will people realise that even though these are on, their rear lights aren't). And then you had a few people who thought that high intensity lights would be a good idea. Granted a couple of times these were a good idea as it was a mix of heavy rain and mist/fog but when it's only rain turn the things off!!

yes I discovered my waterproof trousers aren't on a hike with the scouts last night. frown It's amazing how quickly the vegetation greens up after a little rain.
Cherry Blossom Power protector, Morrisons £2.65. Found out a few years ago on a PHSS my "waterproof" trousers weren't, recently used that stuff and although not tried them outdoors yet but under a running tap the water beads and rolls off.

Must have been very localised.

All gone now and the sun is also shining here (North Maidenhead towards Cookham).

We scored a direct hit for once.

If you look on blitzorgtung.org you can see the lightning is flashing away, probably over Hemel or Watford now.

Cheers. I think the water was being blown sideways through the zip...

It's been great today, from our office in Putney we can see the Wembley arch, when it dissapears we know we have about 10 mins before the next load of weather rolls in, just been watching London disappear before our eyes for 20 mins at a time (we are quite high up)

No lightning/storms yet though and I suspect I'll enjoy it less when the trains are inevitably affected about 5:30

Stop the press. It's sunny in Geordieland... wink

Next week sees a pretty potent northerly - in fact, if this forecast holds, the winter thread is go... https://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/Cairngorm/...

Then Lorenzo barrels through. Yet more tropical warmth, and tropical rain.

Stunningly bright rainbow between showers. Photo doesn't really do it justice.

Looks like a direct hit, I wonder if it will hit us a intense low in it's own right or be absorbed into a larger Atlantic low?

Direct hit on Ireland, at tropical storm strength.

Rain will be worse than wind for the Irish, I suspect. They're used to that strength of wind!

Apparently the strongest ever to make it this far East.

So far, this week has been the wettest I can remember for many a year but it has remained strangely warm.

Any ideas?

The trees are bending over fully laden looking precarious. Wind is very strong, Redhill, Surrey.

Not sure this was in the forecast.....

Any ideas about the potential wind speed for us in the UK?

Will it just be a low pressure system when it gets here or could it be troublesome?

Latest forecast nudges it north of NI, but still TS strength.

Definition of a tropical storm is sustained winds of 39-73 mph. Ie gusts are faster.

With fully laden trees that would be trouble.
