I have a theory that East Berks / South Bucks is actually the hottest area of the UK, if not the world (and sadly I happen to live in it!) and the MET office should jolly well put a weather station somewhere there.
Heathrow is the nearest to me about 12 miles away with Northolt 13 miles away and they often hold yearly temp records. Get a station somewhere in the actual Thames Valley and I reckon it would be hotter!

Funnily enough, last Saturday, driving from Rickmansworth to Reading on the M25/M4, we recorded the hottest temperature around Jc6 for Sluff. It was 2 degrees higher than at the M4/M25 junction. Is this fake news?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-33136737
The BBC said:
The area between London and Reading, in Berkshire, has the highest likelihood of a tornado in the UK, according to researchers mapping their location.
The BBC also said:
It found they were much more likely in England than in other parts of the UK - and if England was taken separately, it would have one of the world's highest rates of tornadoes, relative to its size.
Have to say I've never seen one and hope this isn't a case of "Be careful what you wish for".Edited by colin_p on Friday 5th July 14:54

Something to do with the prevailing wind approaching the London Urban Heat Island?
Possibly.I've decided to stop moaning about the heat and become a tornado chaser. If I see one out of the window, I'll chase it. After all according to the BBC I live smack in the middle of the worlds Tornado hotspot!
Yes, M4 corridor from Reading to London is the highest rated locality for tornadoes, but it's a slim chance: https://www.manchester.ac.uk/discover/news/new-map...
I do also know the UK has the highest incidents of tornadoes in the world per square km. Obviously our''s are somewhat weaker than in the US!

Again, it is official and rubber stamped now.I do also know the UK has the highest incidents of tornadoes in the world per square km. Obviously our''s are somewhat weaker than in the US!
I am now a tornado chaser and live deep in tornado country.
I'll obviously have to start a thread to see what car is best for doing it.
Some good suggestions. I'm astonished that some clackety old Saab or Volvo, a Suzuki Swift or the ubiquitous MX5 hasn't been mentioned, but the night is young.
I think I've already got the perfect tank for it already, a very old, but hewn from granite, VW Passat Teedee-eye
Anyway, must dash, I've got to look out of the window as it has got a bit cloudy now and I don't want to miss any tornado's.
