Feel your pain. Drove from Essex to Hull to a bit to camera and had a similar experience and what I thought would be participation in a one hour programme turned out to be a 30 sec 'insert' piece. My starring role is here if you're interested .....though this meme describes it perfectly!

Which one are you? The bloke who walks like a kipper, or the geezer in the whistle?

I was on TV and nearly in a film with Catherine Zeta-Jones, Sean Pertwee and Ewan McGregor.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFjRxN3pw9s&li...

Years ago, I had gone for a surf at Gwithian with a friend of mine, but when we got there, the car park was full of people and trucks. We saw some cameras up the beach where a few people were in the water, so we went to a quieter bit of the beach and went in. After about half an hour another couple of guys started surfing next to us, then told us to get out of the water as they were going to be filming there (a few people with cameras were walking down the beach towards us at that point). We declined and carried on surfing. They would catch a wave, paddle out and swear at us, but we stayed in and decided the best option was to rugby tackle them while they were on the wave and being recorded.

The mum of the friend who I was with at the time owned a cafe, with a flat above it. The guy who rented the flat said that he'd seen us on TV, surfing and rugby tackling the other guys who were surfing. There used to be a show on, kind of a westcountry version of Barry Norman and there had been a segment about the making of Blue Juice.

We went to the cinema when it was released, hoping to see ourselves in the same thing as Catherine Zeta Jones, but we'd been cut out of the film, probably for being annoying teenagers.

I was on a show in the early 90’s called “Beetle drive” I think it was with Micaela Strachan(if that’s how you spell it).

I won a competition at school to do a football academy with Bobby Charlton. I didn’t even like football to be honest but it seemed a cool thing to do.biggrin I was on Tv doing a big minging slide tackle on some unsuspecting lad.

I do remember Bobby was an absolute gentleman. Really nice guy and was happy to chat with anyone and everyone.

Didn’t get paid though.grumpy

I once appeared on World's Greatest Motorcycle rides, which was a tad ironic as I was on a bicycle. Got dinner and a DVD out of it.
This afternoon I have been mostly exchanging FB posts with a very friendly Henry Cole.

  1. wrongthread.

Please tell us more sir .
I appeared quite a lot with French & Saunders, Lenny Henry.. and all the 'alternative' crowd as they were considered then. (I was actor/musician at the time, so did a lot of the musical stuff, off and on camera).
That's pretty cool . Thx.

Dawn French used to visit my Stall in Soho quite often, people do not realise how pretty she actually is close up.

I was on clubavision back in 2000/2001, I was only in the background. As far as I know that's the only time I was on TV

My Mrs was on the Big Breakfast on the eggs on legs feature.

I was on songs of praise in 1984 aged 7...

Sadly the only time the camera actually caught me I had my middle finger so far up my left nostril it looked like I was trying to extract my brain.

My parents were so proud lol

That’s the one. They shut down the night their episode was on. I was asked to come back for the “after” filming to compare but declined the offer.

The experience was odd from the outset. We were sat away from the normal area which aroused my suspicion. Later on I saw my photo attached to a camera so I spoke to the camera man and he said we had been identified as potentially interesting people. Possibly because of the accent but explained why we were sat away from others. The producers made it clear if we had an issue we tell them first. Our plan was to keep low and head out quietly. That failed when my wife’s prawns were served raw. As previously said, there was a lot of alcohol served to us. Granted, we expected to pay and no one was forcing it down us. But, it was clear they wanted us liquored up and we were happy to comply. When the first set of prawns came out raw they immediately gave us a bottle of champagne for free. Even so I’d guess our alcohol bill was North of $400 for the 4 of us.

Gordon did not come over to us which was also odd considering how much time we spent on camera. I’m sure there was a reason for it though. Ultimately, my 2 moments of fame, as I appeared twice, lasted for little more than seconds. The uncooked prawns had more air time than I did which suited me. Having said that, every time the show is repeated in the UK or the US I get abusive messages from my friends taking the piss out of the subtitles and the way I pronounced “raw”.
Interesting! I've always wondered how they control whats going on and how much truth there is to events, been a big fan of the UK and US ones.

My wife's cousin's family were one of the Dunelm christmas families on TV last year. He got ribbed terribly at work. I think they got paid fairly well. It was certainly in the £1000's. They also got lots of kitchen stuff too. It would have to be a properly vast amount of money for me to even consider it!

I got filmed talking to Ant &Dec at the auditions for the first series of BGT , I hadn't realised they were actually filming . When asked to sign a release form I asked if I would get paid they said no so I didn't sign .
I have been an extra in a film , $50 per day back in 1969 , been in two documentaries, one very very briefly that was about industrial noise the other about the world shore fishing championships where three of us were stewards and did multiple pieces to camera . Much of my stuff got binned because of a logo on some clothing that was for the sponsors biggest competition!
I have also been on a few motorsport crash videos, one of the marshalls or rescue crews dealing with the aftermath.
My dear departed mum will probably be part of our local BBC tribute to the Queen when she passes away . The beeb has a large archive all ready for the event .

A friend of mine who was without work from time to time in the 80s and 90s got several days work on things like 'Minder'. He was often in the background, but sometimes facing the camera in shot.

A mutual friend got him the jobs. Quite well paid, for casual work. Lots of sitting around. All the free food you could eat.

I got asked to be in a feature on The One Show a couple of years ago, it was made clear from the outset that there wouldn’t be a fee involved.

The setup was Jay Rayner, the food critic (pleasant enough, slightly impressed with himself), was reporting of the rise in the use of fungus derived meat substitute. I was asked by the owner of my local pub/restaurant to help out and see if I could tell the difference.

Ended up being 3 taste testers on camera with Mr Rayner; a farmer (me), a local butcher & a swanky chef. The kitchen bought out three very similar looking bowls of bolognese with one being beef, the next pork and the final Quorn. We had to identify each and Jay seemed extremely agitated when all 3 of us got them all correct. Perhaps it wasn’t the result the director wanted?

Anyhoo, I was excited when it was advertised that this feature was to be on, but ultimately disappointed that we 3 were left on the cutting-room floor to be replaced by 3 random punters in a Fulham bistro. Needless to say they didn’t have a clue which was which!!

On a brighter note, it allowed Jay to deliver his closing piece to camera about how the improvement of meat substitute recipe meant that it was almost impossible to tell it from the real thing, which he’d been writing when I met him in that pub weeks before.
