Dont go into the Politics section, the left wing snowflakes get so easily offended and will never speak to you again.
If they don't "speak to you again" why would you care?
Why do you care if I care?

Its about having a grown up debate, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I am happy to read/understand them, even if I don't agree. There is no need to throw your toys out of the pram and go off in a huff because you don’t agree with other peoples opinions/facts, then not talk to them or hold a grudge.

Politics or not, same as the other forums as people have written above.

I have noticed that PH is a place where people are far less open. It's not the type of place to get too friendly and hand out personal information. I guess that's half the reason so many people have more than one account.
I suppose it depends who you know. I have met many people from Pistonheads at events, pub meets, BBQ's etc
I've posted pics with me in them and links to my personal FB account in some of the pets threads. I'm not overly concerned if people can tie "Algarve" to the real me.

Unless you're in a job where you might get into conflict with people in the real world I couldn't really care less about a bit of an online footprint here. I get why a police man or a traffic warden might not want a public profile.

I think the forum would be a far friendlier place if everyone was forced to verify their ID and tie it on their profile page biggrin. Its easy to act awfully online if you're inclined. Thats something I'd try and avoid normally anyway of course but I can't do it here as I'd run the risk of retaliation in the real world. My facebook account easily links to my real business.

You're the one that's warning people not to go in there. And you're the one assuming that other people are "in a huff" or "holding a grudge". You even call them "snowflakes". It sounds more and more like you're the one that gets easily offended and holds grudges.

Yes, NP&E does have people in there with strong opinions but, if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Again, I don't care one bit if people know personal information about me. I don't believe I'd ever upset anyone enough to warrant a 'visit', and I've never had the luck of having a stalker!

I have a PH stalker who has followed me into real life trying to cause me as much grief as possible.

It used to wind me up but when I realised how much time he was wasting focusing on everything I did or said I realised just how tragic and desperate he really was/is.

I just ignore it now!
Was that the same guy who was telling you on here that your first wife wasn't the stunning model who you said it was, but you'd got it wrong, and you'd actually been married to a different stunning model! You tried to assure him you knew who you'd married but he wasn't having it.

He was adamant you were wrong and he was right. It was one of my favourite arguments on PH. It was a tough call, but after giving it some thought, I decided that I'd go with your version of events, and that you probably knew better than he did who you were previously married to.
God, I remember that!!! biggrin

No it wasn't him, it was someone who was very vocal on the Finance forum but is suddenly now quite so may be under a ban. He has actually contacted journalists about me, it is that crazy!
Intrigued, does anyone have a link thr the original thread?

There are a few posters who I can rely upon to be contrary and argumentative, and am therefore wary of replying to one of their posts (especially if it is to disagree with them), but I don't hold grudges.

I can't think who you might mean CC? Is one a key part of Chow Mein, and one Zippys mate perchance?

Yeah, I don't hold grudges but there's definitely a number of PH'ers who I won't respond to now. It's just not worth the hassle.

The irony does not exist as the snowflake was not part of a debate with anyone. Being grown up IN a debate I was pointing to.

Your now off my christmas card list and I am not talking to you hehe

It does surprise me that people can be so volatile on here. Not everyone has to agree with things but it's baffling how things get turned around on posters. Also never understood the need to be so rude sometimes. The way some people speak to people on here, in real life they wouldn't have got too far being so quick to be unpleasant.
I think that is part of the problem, some people do not think the internet is real and therefore has no affect on their lives. They think it is some mystical world that they can do and say anything and nothing will come of it. Try logging onto Facebook and threatening to blow up an airport and see how real that becomes.
It's a strange mindset I must admit. I don't know why it has that effect but it definitely does.

Seeing how some people speak to others on here, not even directly to me, if they did the same in real life they'd get slapped at some point in their life. At the very least wouldn't get far in their career.

So you would assume that they reign it in, in the real world.

For my part, I've been banned from a couple of threads on here recently.

I'm not sure if it's over zealous moderating or if I have a cyber-stalker.

If it's the latter, I'm flattered biggrin
Forums are too busy for mods to single people out, I’d have thought. If you’ve been banned from a thread someone / several people will have pressed the report button on your post(s), mods will have reviewed, and taken the view that you’re disrupting the flow of the thread and it would be better if you weren’t contributing to it... I’m sure you may have a different view. biggrin
Well, in my defence, the thread title is "Ask a car salesman anything at all" - so I did.

It seems (some) car salesmen don't like to be taken to task on the utter nonsense they spout. biggrin

Fair enough - I won't hold a grudge.

Seems an odd title for a thread if you're going to get all defensive though.

Yep, this is something I’ve observed time and again.  Not just on PH, to be fair.

However yes, not that I would necessarily condone it, but if certain posters consistently spoke to strangers in a face-to-face situation, as they do on PH, someone would give them the good news at some point.

Indeed. The internet is so intrinsically woven into modern life that I do find it rather strange when people seem to still think that it is separate to "real" (sic) life.

People can, and do, get held legally accountable for their actions on Twitter, Facebook, and other social media, and I don't really understand why forums are any different.

Indeed. I've met loads of PHers over the years at car meets, BTaP, PistonFest, and the like. Not so much in recent years though.

Even went on holiday with a few PHers on at least two occasions. smile

Surely you must have seen this recently? https://www.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/3073999/...

Putting something on a forum isn't really held any differently. I think you just see the Twitter, Facebook and social media stuff more often as they've crippled the traffic going to forums in first place. Especially Groups on Facebook.
