Putting something on a forum isn't really held any differently. I think you just see the Twitter, Facebook and social media stuff more often as they've crippled the traffic going to forums in first place. Especially Groups on Facebook.
I think you misunderstood, or else I was ambiguous; I meant that forums are indeed no different. Putting something on a forum isn't really held any differently. I recently read through this thread with interest and cannot believe the lengths some people seem to be prepared to go to, to win an argument on the internet.
a year or so ago I had to undergo an intrusive process for work where i had to hand over all my internet log in details/usernames, and tell them what websites/forums I went on and what I did on them. I consented to this process (but cant say much more about it than that).
it made me think a bit about how we speak to each other on the internet, and how much information we give out. I was pretty careful before, but it was a sobering reminder that sometimes the internet isn't as anonymous as we like to think.

I'm surprised to read that. I would have refused, quite honestly. For starters, it's a security issue giving out usernames and passwords to third parties, and secondly, it would be none of their business unless you were blatantly abusing your internet facilities at work, a complete violation of your privacy.I'm sure there's more to it than what you're prepared to divulge but even so....

I'll leave you to join the dots on that.
Edit: Let's just say that the people I am thinking about could get the information anyway should they wish to, but getting you to divulge the information saves them a lot of time and effort. Nuff said.

I rather suspect who made the request and under what circumstances, having gone through something similar back in the late 90's, which I similarly can't discuss.
I'll leave you to join the dots on that.
That's ok. I'm not bothered.I'll leave you to join the dots on that.

This does raise something I've often thought about. The question of whether or not one would be happy for one's friends, family & colleagues to read their posts on PH.a year or so ago I had to undergo an intrusive process for work where i had to hand over all my internet log in details/usernames, and tell them what websites/forums I went on and what I did on them. Developed Vetting - and the application form is easy enough to find online.... https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/develop...
As for grudges, I spend a bit of time in SP&L on private parking threads. I know a few people don't agree with what I do, but I do get a fair few private messages showing some support for my opinions.
I've had a proper real life stalker from an ebay forum in the distant past, which is slightly unnerving to start with, but I found that it was better not to rise to the bait, not mention or acknowledge their presence, or the sly comments that indicated they had been watching my movements. I always double checked locks though, and still do!
She moved onto somebody else eventually, who ended up moving abroad to avoid the hassle.

I can't think who you might mean CC? Is one a key part of Chow Mein, and one Zippys mate perchance?

Nope. You can figure it out after a page or two of reading a thread that CC frequents frequently. CC's obviously being more restrained by not confirming, fair play.
It would serve no purpose. Plus, I was making a general comment rather than singling out any one poster or posters. Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
