The wording of the adds and an exchange of messages is usually enough for me to decide to trust them or not.
Definitely. I am moving 400 miles on Tuesday so i have changed my marketplace settings to my new neighborhood and have already made my first purchase. The people seem legit and they have removed the £150 item from the marketplace pending my arrival.

I much prefer this to Ebay as you can also have a look at their profile and make some assumptions about who you are dealing with.
A lot of it is scammers don’t like to deal face to face, also Facebook gives you a certain bit of background on em like you say

Exactly the same here.

I’ve bought and sold on FB Marketplace and no issues.

I just write a decent advert with photos which means things sell without issue. I simply ignore anyone who messages stupid stuff like ‘best price’ and so on.

Cars seem to sell particularly well on there. Sold my last two 911’s and my brothers BMW on there within the last year or so.

I find it fairly useful occasionally.

I've managed to furnish SWIMBO's new bath room for less than £300, brand new vanity unit, brand new Crosswater taps, brand new Eastbrook Towel Rail & 1.8m of Quartz worktop, All off FB. Sold similar amounts too

Listed 3 IKEA storage cubes, brand new, £30 each in IKEA, wanted £30 for them all. Some guy offered £20 and said i'd never sell them for what i was asking, told him to go to IKEA and pay £90 if he wanted them. Sold them a week later for the asking price. Moved house a couple of months later, not long after he messaged me again saying how he was right and i couldn't sell them (forgot the take the advert down) Sent him to my old address which was empty just to waste his time for being a dick biggrin

I know its childish but I couldn't help myself with that either. I wasted half an hour on the phone to some guy when I posted a < 2 year old Peogot 208 for sale. After asking a load of stupid questions he gave me a ridiculous low ball over. I can't even remember what It was now, maybe 3k under on a 10k car.

I'd already priced it below the Portuguese auto traders cheapest comparible one, gave links to explain that and included very detailed photos of absolutely everything. The car was a bargain.

I don't mind people low balling but if somethings priced cheap already then your lowball offer better be the first thing out of your mouth so that we don't need to waste each others time.

It turned out this guy was a car dealer, just low balling every single modern car that came up on the FB group for sale. Probably told to fk off 9 times out of 10 and make a few quid on the last one.

After wasting so much of my time, I reluctantly accepted his offer and chose an area to meet late that evening that I knew would be really inconvenient for him to get to. Then turned my phone off and went to bed biggrin

Noticed a S15 priced under market value which is being sold on behalf of someone else, I don't understand the logic behind the reason they give.

I sold my old car but it was a bit of a faff, a couple who said they'd turn up but never did. Messaged them a couple of times whilst waiting, nothing.
A couple of days later I'd get a message 'soz still meet up ?' etc rolleyes

I love the more details / pictures on request

Plus if it’s ten years sat still, the parts are not new

See if you can get the reg, what’s the betting it’s moved and had an mot in the last 10 years

I think as probably noted before there are as many bad vendors as there are (potential) buyers.
I always make my ads so informative that they have nowhere to go. I put in "Don't ask 'is this still available'?" The answer is yes, it is' to stop those lazy annoying enquiries.
Aside from putting quite simply 'No offers' (followed by why) I've just come up with a delightfully simple way of dealing with low offers when that wasn't written in the ad.
I'm selling something which I need rid of, so is already appropriately priced. A chap asks if i'll make a 25% discount. My response was simply "Why?"
He replied he's seen one cheaper, but further away. I asked him for a link which he sent me. I replied it was of much less quality to mine (and why) which is why it was worth less.
He agreed with my reasoning, paid full price and picked up within half an hour of that message.

I did also head off a timewaster quite early when he asked where I was (it said in the ad), I told him I was at home tongue out

I’ve some suspension parts on FB and eBay, there’s a guy been offering daft prices for about five days now (started at 30%) and I’m not even interaction now as CBA.
Sold on EBay this morning on a buy it now, to what appears to be same guy.
Have resorted to similar answers as “why?” with daft offers on a couple of bikes on there at the min, such as “will you accept £100” on a £300 road bike

I’ve actually sold quite a lot of small stuff on there with little or no hassle.

I put a fairly large pile of almost-as-new cast iron guttering, fittings and downpipes on with a price of £500. Even offered delivery within 10 miles. New would be well over £1000.

FB : “you mean £50?”

Me: “No, £500”

: “it’s not worth that. I’ll give you £30”

Me: “a single down pipe is over £60 new. £500 for the lot, it’s all like new”

: “it’s scrap, worth nothing. OK I’ll go to £50”

Me: “you can have one downpipe for £50”

: “your never going to sell it”

He was right, it didn’t sell on FB. A week later I took it to the builders auction and got £700 for it.
