Sold quite a few things on there and bought a few... it’s the same as anything, for every 5/straightforward deals, there’s 1 . And the squabbling over things is hilarious!

eBay still seems to attract the most dreamers and idiots though...

Example -

I was selling my old works truck, ford transit dropside, highly maintained, sensible miles, very good condition.

Was asking around £4K, aside from the usual idiots offering £1500 who would “be doing me a favour by taking it for that”, people offering similar sums, and when getting turned down, telling me I’m in a dream world, and sending me listings of older, battered vehicles with 60/70k more miles on them. Madness! Another one is will I take a grand less because they’re 3 hours away and need to get a mate to bring them... no, not my issue, look for one closer to home if it’s an issue!

I just asked for details of a screen and projector and the guy couldn't tell me the model number but 'it is good'..
He then says i think it is an HD66 so i look that up and send him a picture of an Optoma HD66 :

Does it look like this?

"no, this is it"

That just looks like some ste old thing so i am trying to be nice and telling him i need to know more about it and he then tells me he didnt take that photo, that was the picture he was given when he swapped his car stereo for it...

Right, thanks..not for me!

I had similar a few months back selling a cheapish car

Agreed a price then he wanted some more off because he had driven all the way from Bournemouth to Southampton to collect it. (45 mins)

When I reminded him that driving all that way means he probably wants it doesn’t improve his his bargaining power when in front of me, he just looked blank.

I know various people that use this logic

Strange

Then you get the people telling you there is a cheaper, better lower mileage one just round the corner from them, I politely suggest they look at that one first

The other one I get from time to time is selling something for say 300

Someone turns up and offers 150, no Thankyou

I say ok, no problem thanks for coming etc

They then try and find faults with it, sometimes I just ignore that or troll then saying ok, it’s not for sale if it’s unsafe.

My favourite is “well I’ve only got £150 to give you”

They then seem to think that’s how the world works, and I guess it must do sometimes

Had one guy not turn up three times for a trailer, he then turned up unannounced, I though well he’s here might as well try

He then proceeded with the teeth sucking and all of that, was rude so I thought he’s going to be trouble if anything goes wrong. He got close to the price I wanted but I stuck to full asking price. He got pretty stty over it. He’d taken an hour out of his time to come over, I reminded him he didn’t turn up three times, he said he was busy.

It turns out he really needed the trailer for a camping trip that weekend. I was pleased he got messed about by me.

Oh, I can hardly wait for all the excitement.

Have the wife's car to sell shortly. Was thinking where to sell.

At present, I have a couple of my cars on offer (need to sell one). They're on PH. Haven't put them on FBMP but won't put them on the bay of fleas, heard too many tales of timewasters. ( I bought one of them off ebay though! Bid, won, travelled 550 miles, paid drove home. And no I'm not one of the Proclaimers).

I remember the time when you paid for an ad in the local paper (Newcastle Evening Chronicle and for a bit more the Journal). Then along came Autotrader and a guy came along with a polaroid camera and took a photo. The "mag" came out on a Thursday morning and everyone rushed to get it and scoured the pages for a bargain. How times have changed.

Got rid of a load of stuff on FB - mostly either for free or 10-20 quid.
I'd have had to take it down to the tip otherwise or post if on Ebay

Absolutely and I am always on the lookout for a bargain!

I have bought a number of things that were terribly described and/or presented and flipped them for more than double the price.

My recent favorite was 'DVD player, £10' and a couple of blurred pictures of it on an old blanket.

I was the only person to inquire about it. it turned out to be a barely used Sony Blu-ray player / home entertainment surround system with out the speakers. I use it as my main disc player and i have an emergency surround amp should my main one fail, for the price of a pack of fags..

I also have bought and sold on market place .
I have recently aquired a freesat hdr with remote and a hell babe wah wah peddle and a couple of months ago a Tanglewood rebel 4k natural blonde bass guitar .
I also bought my Focus a few months ago all done without hassle .
Selling is a bit hit and miss but it's no worse than Gumtree and I find it a lot less aggravating than ebay ( too many scammers)
I have even done some distance buying via market place and bought some guitar bits from fellow enthusiasts who were willing to post for a fee .
The wording of the adds and an exchange of messages is usually enough for me to decide to trust them or not.

Definitely. I am moving 400 miles on Tuesday so i have changed my marketplace settings to my new neighborhood and have already made my first purchase. The people seem legit and they have removed the £150 item from the marketplace pending my arrival.

I much prefer this to Ebay as you can also have a look at their profile and make some assumptions about who you are dealing with.
