This week, I have been annoyed by "tow the line".
Sorry!
I take it you weren’t on a fishing boat. Sorry!
And in use in written English as far back as 1890... https://www.merriam-webster.com/words-at-play/jerr...
Officer: "I want to get some equipment across that fast flowing river Corporal. Could you jury-rig a Gin & Shears to get my stuff across please..."
Corporal: "Certainly, Sir. I'll round up some rope, grab the tackle blocks, and get the men felling some tall, straight trees at the double"
Some hours later, a Gin & Shears barely recognisable from the basic field engineering manual, but apparently just about functional, has been constructed.
Officer: "I'm sure I said jury-rigged, Corporal. That looks very much like it's been jerry-rigged - are you sure it will get this equipment safely across to the other side?"

I get annoyed by "fine tooth-comb" when it should be "fine-tooth comb".
Surely they sound identical when spoken. But either way we know what they mean don't we?RizzoTheRat said:
People emailing me the location of a file on a shared drive by copy and pasting the path, so I have to copy and paste it in to file explorer window, rather then just dragging the file to create a hyperlink in the email that I can just click on.
