Amsterdam heading to Portugal on Air Portugal. There were a big group of Portuguese in front of me who went through pretty quick so you may be on to something with the Visa checks.
I'm usually flying to uk from there so different checkin/security area (Shengin), I don't usually hit any queues at schiphol.
Seems you had a bit of bad luck then, I spent a lot of time to and from Schiphol last year and didn't really experience what you have at security, as most of the lanes there have the fancy new machines that don't need you to take your liquids out and separate them in a little bag. I hope so, I'm transiting through schipol in a few weeks.I've been through AMS a few times before, been pretty efficient and painless each time. I'd rate the airport up with the likes of LHR and SIN.
I'd say Rizzo was unlucky, but there are some airports like BKK and MNL that are absolutely horrible to go through.
Those who hate the TLAs can bite me

My annoyance for today are perpetually offended people who see thread titles and know that the content within is likely to offend them, but rather than doing the sensible thing and moving on to the next thread, instead they decide to come in and then post a lot of outrage about how offended they are by it all and bh about the mods "not doing their job" in a thread that has existed for 276 pages without any issue.

Depends where you're going. If you're flying out of Schengen (eg UK) you go through departures 2 or 3 and it's usually a doddle, although sometimes a few minutes queue for passports. I pay the extra for easyjet, plus worth it at Gatwick but it's rarely a benefit at schiphol security. However inside schengen is departures 1 which seems to be a completely different story. The BBC (and other TV news outlets) persisting in broadcasting from College Green opposite Parliament and having to put up with the constant wkers shouting in the background.
Just present the show from the fking multi-million pound news studio my TV licence paid for and spare me the braying of fools.

Another alternative would to just be build double glazed windows around their pop up platform and spare us from that prick.
But being as the BBC Are Pro Remain I suspect the presenters are enjoying it
