Work collections.....for every last trivial event.

I don't mind donating to a worthy cause, charity etc, but where I work, our admin 'girls' seem to take it upon themselves to arrange a collection at least once a week.

We had a collection last week for our MD's birthday, they thought it would be 'nice'

He has said all year the purse strings have to be tightened, he has more than a vested interest in the company, and so we are expecting little if any inflation based pay rise at the end of the year and even less of a performance related bonus, and they are asking us to contribute to buy him a flash bottle of whisky / watch / pen whatever.

I would be mortified in his position asking my employees for such a donation. I refused that one, and most people thought I was a miserable tight arsed bd. Fair enough, send a birthday card round for everyone to sign, no problem! But asking for a financial contribution to buy him something lavish, crazy imo.

But they are relentless, another one this week, for a retirement, the guy is not even retiring, he's moving on to two days a week from the new year onwards.

Extremely annoying.

The constant attack on men as the predators.

Linkedin (I know) article explaining that teenagers need to be taught about the dangers posed by elder men on the internet and how women need to be careful whilst online dating.

I've had enough, it isnt just men its women too - in fact, as the stories are now coming out, a damned site more women are involved in abuse than previously misconceived.

It seems ok for a woman to oggle a boy because its just fun but not the other way round. Its acceptable for my daughter to have sleep overs at her mums house but there is a stigma if kids do a sleep over at mine - all due to this bullst brainwashing.

Well punch one of them in the face then.

I used to be called all sorts of names for refusing to contribute to their collections. Giddy little fkers that were just looking to waste time and cock tease the salesguys.

I am always worried about how much actually ends up with who it is supposed to. Some of the receptionists at my firm decided to donate to the local homeless shelter. The shelter provided a list of things they are in desperate need of like tins of beans, plumb tomatoes, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, toothbrushes, razors, shower gel etc. I chucked a few items in the collection box knowing who is going to receive it.

It's always cold hard cash I am asked for, deducated from next months salary. furious

I would be more than happy to contribute to a scheme like that though, a few essentials in a box to send to those that need it, no problem. But asking me for a whip round for £300 worth of finest Scotch for the MD to get pissed on is pushing it a bit.

It was pretty easy to add things to my regular shopping delivery when they tell you what they need https://whitechapel.org.uk/donate/inkind

so is the tracking based on the item sold by amazon? or the third party? it gives the impression all the items would arrive at once.
Depends on which warehouse(s) they were dispatched from. Items coming from the same warehouse will typically arrive in the same box at the same time, whereas items from different warehouses will arrive in different boxes, sometimes at different times if coming direct, and sometimes at the same time if they came via a hub that collected them all together.

Also, it depends on whether you selected the option to send as the items become available or wait for all to be dispatched. As an Amazon Prime customer I think the former happens for me anyway.

The above is all for stuff dispatched by Amazon (some Marketplace sales are fulfilled by Amazon). For items that are both sold and fulfilled by a Marketplace seller, they'll be sent independently of Amazon, and you may or may not get tracking info from them. It depends.
Amazon as a whole annoys me beyond reason.

But their oddly specific "what to do if you're not in" options really do infuriate me. In my case, the front wall is directly on the public pavement, and I live in a back-to-back terrace, so my backyard is separated from the neighbour behind me by a narrow rubbish alley, with locked gates at each end. This alley is accessible by anyone that lives in a house with a backyard that backs on to it. Basically, there is nowhere to store parcels safely if I'm not in, so they have to be left with a neighbour for safekeeping. I live at 77, the folks in 75 and 79 are also in and out all the time, and they've taken parcels in for me and it's been days between the delivery and me being able to get it, as they're invariably never in when I am, and vice versa.

No problem, just tell Amazon that if I'm not in, to leave it with my friendly neighbours at 82, who are always in, always happy to take parcels in, and will then keep an eye out for me and give it to me as soon as they see me coming back.

Nope - you get given a range of secure locations around the typical private property, none of which apply to me, and then an option to leave it with a neighbour. But it can only be a next door neighbour. So no, you can't ask them to leave it at 82, it has to be 79 or 75! confusedrolleyes

In my case, I have a large metal secure parcel dropbox bolted to the outside wall next to my front door. But can I specify that as a secure location? Nope - best I can do is specify "secure front porch". Most people take the hint that a large metal box with "POST" on the top and "PULL" on the flap means that is where they should put things, but I still get things just left leant against the door. Or occasionally placed on top of the dropbox.

Or sometimes, the door bell rings and when I answer the door, it's to be told the parcel is in the dropbox. Um, thanks?

Edit: In fairness, sometimes things are too big to fit in the dropbox in which case fair enough. Although there are instances where the delivery driver is simply too lazy to try.

I had considered one of those, but the trouble is, there is no private land in front of my wall, the wall is essentially the boundary, so the lock boxes would just protrude annoyingly into the pavement, and since the neighbours like to park on the pavement, it would mean ttting your shin, arm, or face against the box every time you walked past it! Can't put one inside the doorway, as once again it would just narrow the doorway and be an inconvenience! I just wish I could have one of those dropbox type flaps on the top half of my door so that people could simply just push the parcel through the door. But make it a lockable type so you can only open it after having unlocked it with a code I'd give you or something. But then Amazon probably wouldn't let me put any kind of code for a lockbox into their delivery instructions anyway! rofl

But that would mean ALL my deliveries go to 82, and... Well... There are certain deliveries I get that I wouldn't want to fall into the hands of any of my neighbours, lest they accidentally... open it... scratchchinhehe

Yes, sorry, I realised that and should have mentioned that I wasn't offering it as a suggestion to you. It's just your Amazon annoyances reminded me of my own. smile

One thing to consider with Amazon is having stuff delivered to your nearest Amazon Locker. If you have one near you they are very convenient.

That's fine, so long as the parcel is no bigger than a box of matches. OK, I may be exaggerating a little, but the size limits for the Lockers are quite restrictive and third party sellers (non-FFBA) don't/can't use them. For larger items I tend to order them from Ebay instead and have them delivered to Argos for collection as they don't seem to grumble over larger sized boxes.

I have had a slow cooker delivered to an Amazon locker. But frustratingly they have just removed the locker fr the little corner shop near me, although they will take packages

Don't worry about it, even if they do open those parcels, if it's a retired couple they probably won't have the puff to blow it up all the way anyway.
