Also people who stand up on unbusy trains and move to the doors 5/10 mins before arrival at station. Why do you do this? If the train is busy and you want to get ahead fair enough, we all do that. but when there’s a handful of people on the carriage? What’s the point? Invariably when people do this the train comes to an inexplicable stop just before the station…some sort of chaos theory going on I’m sure. Hap you just stayed sitting we would have arrived on time.
Or worse, as a young, unseasoned traveller aged about 14/15, I knew that the next stop was Reading, where I needed to get off and change trains, I had a huge kit bag with me coming back from a cadet trip, had been on the train all the way from Redruth so started packing up my belongings and all sorts, felt the train starting to slow down, confidently walked to the door, hopped off and JUST worked out in time that I had in fact got off the train in Newbury, which was an unscheduled stop on that train where I'd not heard the announcement as I listened to my sony DiscmanShakermaker said:

As an unseasoned train traveller of around 19, I hurried from work one Friday evening to Temple Meads to catch a train to Portsmouth. I’d been seeing a girl during the summer who moved down there for Uni so it was going to be a busy weekend! In my desperation I dragged my balls to the platform, hopping on to the ‘P’mouth’ train in the nick of time. Now you may or may not know ‘P’mouth’ is also short for Plymouth. I was in Taunton by the time I’d worked this out. I didn’t receive the welcome I was expecting when I eventually got there

+1 chap who used to be in one of my teams does this. makes my teeth itch for some irrational reason!
I had a colleague at one client who I sat opposite from and he would say "What can I do you for?" rather than "What can I do for you?" every single time someone came to his desk. Every. Single. Time. Several times a day.
For the entire 14 months I was at that site.
At one point I seriously considered replying "ABH or GBH" to him.

Not everyone is a seasoned traveller, and if they are an infrequent train traveller they may have anxiety that they will miss their stop, and they overestimate the time needed to gather their belongings and move to the door. It's the same reason that infrequent air travellers arrive hours before they need to, "just in case".

most people use journeycheck or national rail site on unfamiliar journeys to see when there likely to arrive or when a tannoy announcment occurs or look at google maps
Actually most people don't. Few people remember their arrival time let alone memorise the average travel time between stations. Hell even regular travellers won't even know the avg time between stations they travel between every day. Many don't even bother learning their avg commute times. As for using Google maps, most people aren't. Especially given the spotty coverage outside of major cities.
Finally.... When is public transport actually on time?
However you refuse to consider that other people aren't exactly like you because it's you TPM.

you know all these regular commuters who have no idea how long there commute is i guess, don't recognize landmarks near the destination they get off every day for years at.
